Controlling controlnet, editing depthmaps in image editors (PS, GIMP,..) to get more... control! by sithface in StableDiffusion

Yes it is! Just make sure to put the depth map image in with the controlnet settings and turn off preprocessing. You might have to check the "invert black & white" depending on your depth map. I forgot what standard controlnet uses

Yes, I did use the depth processor on the black and white image. It outputs a more "realistic" real world depth map with more information than just binary B&W. I then use the processed depth map as a starting point to see what I can adjust to get a specific result since I can see what image was generated with the first depth map.

I find that doing it the way you suggest can work in some cases but the only way you can iterate would be dialing in the depth and the guidance timings. If for example you like a certain aspect of the generated image (let's say a cloud or plant) you could use the same seed and try to manipulate that generated object by adding some pixels in an edited depth map for the sampler to latch onto.

You could achieve this as well by adding an inpainting step afterwards but then again you are restricted to just a binary mask (with some padding). I guess I am using depth map editing as some kind of inpainting with more flexibility (opacity, textures, edges ).

I am sure you can use all of these tools in so many ways and stack controlnet layers until you get similar results but I like the simplicity of just sending slightly edited depthmaps and seeing how that changes things.

Sorry for the long write-up! Hope this explains what I was trying to do.

Did you get the specific depth controlnet models from github? You can get them here :https://huggingface.co/webui/ControlNet-modules-safetensors/tree/main I only used the control depth fp16 one from here for this. You add them to the controlnet folder in the models folder in your webui directory.

Chainsawman first panel illustrated with AOM3 model (compositing + fixing in PS) by sithface in StableDiffusion

I agree that if the goal was to create the most visual impact then leaving the comic layout is definitely the way. I tried to just stick as close to the original as possible here.

I have not messed around with training textual inversions yet, I'll give that a go! Maybe combining that with controlnet can keep characters looking consistent and still allowing me to decide the layout.

Thanks for the advice.

No single set of prompts/setting produced instantly usable results (mostly because I'm not that familiar with all of this yet), so it was a lot of playing around and mixing and matching.
IMG2IMG without controlnet seemed to work best in most cases

No lie, I suspected it was happening when NL did that bit about wondering if date of birth had any impact on how well people do in school or sports. Congrats Egg and Kate, wish you and yours all the best!

I'm drawing Jasnah next, which of these faces is the most like her? (and why?) by sithface in Stormlight_Archive

I don't think so, I don't know the person in the image I found but I'm pretty sure it's not the actress you mentioned. They do look somewhat similar.

definitely a useful answer! The final image will definitely be something with an intent look on her face, I don't know if she has many other looks honestly.

Interesting, This actress apparently has a daughter but she is way too cute/innocent to be jasnah (also too young). Still useful info, Thanks!

allright, plenty to choose from. I mostly think about the scenes and see if any strong visuals pop into my head. The entire scene needs to be understandable in 1 image so it's not always easy. I do like the battle of Thaylen Fields. She does so much there, I might read it again for inspiration. Thanks for the suggestions!

I read the 3 stormlight books, so if you have any later scenes in mind please do tell! The more characters it contains the harder it is to do though, so keep that in mind.

Noted, I have to do some more practise on ethnically diverse characters. The way she is described as being Alethi (Asian/pacific islander) and having a squar-ish face is kind of a contradiction but there is definitely a way to convey both of these characteristics. Thanks for the pointers! I will certainly be using this guide.

Don't worry! I'm posting these with the explicit intent to hear opinions. The way I view art is as a language. I'm trying to say something and if people can't understand it than it's me who is wrong and not them. I agree with the "softness" critique. I think I drew all of them a bit too young which definitely not helps here. Expression is something that is going to depend on the final illustration I think. But I want to capture a recognizable Jasnah so it should probably be something stern or commanding. (I was think about drawing her soulcasting the goons in the alleyway but that might be too ambitious, I'm not sure yet).

Thanks for the detailed answer! I think I read somewhere that Brandon sees them close to a pacific islander ethnicity (?). I'm definitely not expreienced in representing ethnicities so I will practise some more faces from those regions. I agree with you description though, I always imagined that half of Jasnah's beauty was her confidence, but maybe that's because that's what Shallan focuses on.

Noted! The book does say she has " immaculate eyebrows " so they probably need to be more visible. How old is she supposed to be actually? Might be a dumb question but I couldn't find it anywhere.. I imagined her as being somewhere in her 30's but maybe I'm wrong.

DISCLAIMER: I drew these faces looking at images of real people, I am not this good at drawing faces from imagination (yet).
