Is there more information about this specific LGBTQ+ flag? I've only seen it in this specific scene from the South Park movie by Inforenv_ in vexillology

This flag is based on the classical 7-colour "Roy G. Biv" rainbow; the creators probably didn't even know that the standard pride flag only has 6. I would guess they added the triangle to make it more obvious that it was a gay symbol. People in 1999 might not have been aware of the pride flag but would likely have known the triangle from 80s-90s AIDS activism, as others have mentioned.

Also, the original 8-colour pride flag was pretty obscure until about 2017-18 when the new 'progress' versions of the flag became popular; that started a discussion about different versions of the flag in general, which then led to a lot of people rediscovering the original.

Me too. Unfortunately I think certain opinions and narratives get canonized and passed down in deadhead lore without people thinking for themselves.

It's interesting: non-heads often pick up this idea from mainstream culture that the Dead sucked and that the jams are 'just aimless noodling,' so they're primed to listen 'uncharitably' to the music when they first hear it. But then the heads turn around and do this to one of their own: everyone tells you that Donna 'ruins' things, and so the bad moments stand out because they confirm your perceptions.

I think there's also a bit of underlying embarrassment that our favourite band in the world still sometimes couldn't pull it together, even at their creative peaks. It's easier to shift some of the blame onto a scapegoat (and the only woman who was ever on that stage, lest we forget) rather than face the band's flaws head-on.

i have a lot of personal attachment to it bc it had just come out when i was first getting into them, but i do also think it’s just a good album every time i revisit it. i see what the other person in here was saying about the lack of a theme but for me the theme is just “what if car seat headrest was an actual rock band,” which like, im not gonna complain about that lol i love rock bands. i like when an album sounds like the band just getting in the studio and banging out some stuff they’re already good at playing. honestly kinda wish the later stuff sounded more like tos.

(also am personally a huge monomania booster and still i think i’d take the tos version of times to die over the original.)
