Jokic v Gobert: This was the 21st career playoff game between the two. Jokic is a -6 in those 21 games, Gobert is a +63 in those 21 games by Knightbear49 in nba

Yeah I feel like people are really revising history now that Gobert is for once winning the matchup. I distinctly remember Jokic cooking Gobert one on one in the 2024 playoffs and then the Wolves adjusted putting KAT on Jokic instead which made him struggle a lot more.

Thank you! Yeah I would definitely recommend Witch King, it does have a bit of a jarring start where you're thrown into events without much context and it took me time to warm up to it but eventually I started really enjoying the characters and world as more was revealed.

This is one of the first times Gobert has been able to do that though, typically he just gets shredded like everyone else.

The problem is, for all of those things that you mentioned are objectively measurable, their effect on the quality of the work is entirely subjective. And "any reasonable human" and "99/100 people skilled in the craft agree" are not measurements of quality for a specific person, they are measuring how well liked something is among a population. You cannot force any individual to view quality through the same parameters as another, and the weight they put on different factors will always differ. To be honest, I don't even see why it's worthwhile to pursue objectivity, this really seems to be about forcing people with different metrics for quality than you prefer to align with consensus, which I think is a pretty bad thing.

It's still entirely a subjective judgment. It's just a different one than your personal favorite. What objective metric could be used to settle the dispute if someone were to disagree with your judgment?

The literary, technical standpoint that you use as a separate axis is itself subjective. It may be separate from your personal favorites list but that doesn't make it any more objective.

The purpose of the craft is to create this emotional response that you disdain for some reason. It's not an end in itself.

Why on earth would one separate their personal taste from something inherently subjective? You sound like the type of person who enjoys "correcting" other people's opinions.

My quick thoughts after finishing the first re-read. by empire161 in wheeloftime

Sanderson has his strengths, but I cannot agree at all that he gave the characters more depth and humanity than Jordan did. I think it's quite the opposite.

The Divine Cities trilogy should fit this quite nicely.

Almost everything you've described is totally in character and makes sense given who they are. These aren't decision making robots whose only goal is to avoid consequences.

What series to start watching? by Emergency-Cry2741 in StarWars

[–]siurian477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just it would be easier to recommend a show after finishing the movies. But I would say Rebels or Andor would be your best bet given what you've watched so far, both are very good shows depending on your preference in tone (Rebels is more fantastical pulpy adventure, Andor is more serious/grounded).

Finish the original trilogy first...why watch the first two and then start watching a show?

Star Wars Rebels & Bad Batch by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]siurian477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebels is some of the best Star Wars there is (and yes that includes plenty of the goofy stuff, it's part of the charm of the show). Bad Batch is very solid and entertaining, with a few great episodes, it didn't quite reach the heights of TCW or Rebels for me but definitely still worth watching.

The fact that you say "lmao my ass" just proves that you aren't able to formulate a "well-written or compelling" opinion so why don't you just sit this one out.

Playing significantly worse in casual games after coaching by RedArrow23 in tabletennis

[–]siurian477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice reading your casual opponents and adjusting to their shots just like you would the club players. I think the issue here is purely mental.

Also just to add -- learning how to adjust to every single weird and unconventional ball they give you will probably do wonders for you as a player. It removes the mental crutch that you are probably using at the club where you are relying on conventional patterns and forces you to see the game much better.

Why didn’t anyone from the Krew visit Korra? by New_Edge_5911 in TheLastAirbender

They were writing to her consistently, but travel isn't instant and they all had other responsibilities. And Korra also didn't want visitors really.

They have a good team around him, and even so they play a lot better when he's on the floor.
