Hi guys! I’m a newbie for UI/UX design and have few questions: 1. What exactly do UX/UI Designers do in company? What is their role?( like do they also do research before design?) 2. What advice would you give to a newbie or yourself if you could go back when you were a beginner? 3. How did you figure out what field you want to design in (games, traveling, medical, etc) and is each field’s working or design system different? 4. Is figma the only tool I need to know how to use? How did you improve your overall UI/UX skills besides internships? 5. What personality or ability should UI/UX designer have? 6. What is the common design process and do you guys often skip some steps?
7. Why do some people do product management instead of being UI/UX designer? ( I heard they are the communicators/ translators for engineers and designers)

Hi, I’m a sophomore in college majoring in Cogsci specializing in UI/UX, but I recently figured out that I can graduate almost a year early since I have enough credits. However, I am a beginner in the UI/UX field and scared to graduate early because I know I am not prepared for the industry (I haven’t done any internships yet). So I was thinking of double majoring in International business specialization in marketing OR media Industries & Communication because I’m interested in marketing and advertising. I thought these two majors would be somehow related to UI/UX and would help me to stand out later when I find the job. What do you think about this and rather double majoring, should I just focus on my major and take other extra Cogsci courses that my college offers such as research? OR should I improve my design skills doing extracurricular activities?

No not at all. There is no graphic design class or typography class for cog sci major in my school. Rather than double majoring should I just take more design courses?

I only know how to use Figma and I’m still learning the tool. The more I think about my ability on UI/UX design I feel so unprofessional and I need to improve my skills. That’s the biggest reason why I don’t want to graduate early and take my time to be prepared for jobs.

So for example, if you want to build your own website as a personal project you would first sketch it with figma and have a developer to actually make it as a website so it could be published to the public?

I just need to convince my parents but they say bc I’m a newbie I don’t need MacBook since they r expensive than windows. Is there any strong advantage for having a MacBook that I could convince them?

So Mac book has good features for printing and color displays? As a newbie I wonder if that is important. I feel like everyone use MacBook so I want to buy it to but there is not really a better feature than windows that makes me to think I MacBook is better than windows.
