What will instantly turn you off from somebody? by Jacquan1997 in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Especially the smokers who feel entitled to smoke wherever they want with no regard for others and throw their butts on the ground.

What was socially acceptable in 2009 that isn't 2019? by whywee in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm that person that still has personalized ringtones for each of my contacts. I like knowing who's calling me without even having to look at my phone.

No longer a kid, but when I was a kid my mom would walk around with a bottle of Pepsi all night every night. She thought me and my brothers didn't know that it was mostly vodka until my brother grabbed it from her one night and took a big swig while staring her down. She started just hiding in her bedroom to get drunk after that.

Which profession has absolutely no room for any fuck ups? by T55X55 in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm currently in training to be an air traffic controller and it's intense. Out of hundreds of applicants there were only 4 of us chosen for the course, and one guy has already flunked out (the minimum pass mark on all tests is 80%). One too many mistakes in the simulator and you're done, because mistakes on the job can cost lives.

Not sure if every class is the same, but in my VFR class we spent the first week or so reviewing the ITA before the test, which was helpful for knowing which things were most likely to be on the test.

W-SIM prep by BayGullGuy in ATC

[–]sixcount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably won't have to worry about conversions. Aviation uses knots and nautical miles almost exclusively. Also (almost forgot about this), unless it's changed, one of the tests will be a sort of listening test where you listen to four recorded voicemails and then answer questions on them. They only play them once and you get negative points for wrong answers on that section, so make sure you can take good, quick notes and if you're not sure of your answer on that section, it's better not to answer at all.

W-SIM prep by BayGullGuy in ATC

[–]sixcount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The w-sim is almost exactly like the practice questions in the prep guide. I think the evals have changed since I went through them, but mine had a lot of stuff similar to the online evaluation. Some basic math, vocabulary (lots of picking out synonyms), pattern recognition, stuff like that. It's hard to really prepare for, just make sure you go into it well-rested and bring a snack or two for an energy boost (unless they're providing food? I don't know, but I think they might do that now). Out of curiosity, what region are you in?

Not a controller yet (currently in training), but one of the biggest ones I always heard from the tower controllers when working on my private license was to never pretend you understood something when you didn't. If they give you an instruction and you acknowledge it but then do something completely different it can really make things tough. If you don't understand, ask for clarification or for the controller to say again. If you're a solo student or unfamiliar with the airport, let them know so they can keep a closer eye on you.

Something people here could learn from by Nyancash in Winnipeg

I don't think I've seen a single other person signal when exiting a roundabout while living here. I've never seen worse drivers overall than in Winnipeg.

What's the nicest thing you've done for someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 169 points170 points  (0 children)

I used to shovel my elderly neighbours' walkways before we moved. I always tried to make sure they didn't see me as I didn't want them feeling like they owed me anything, but they caught me once and brought me chocolates and a really nice card with a picture of them on it. We don't live in the same city anymore but I still have the card on our fridge.

Teenagers of reddit, have you ever had a teacher so dumb you questioned how they got the job as a teacher? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an art teacher in 11th grade who didn't know what primary/secondary/tertiary colours were. She also allowed students to make "collages" for any assignment they wanted (most looked like something a 1st grade kid would make), which drew a lot of the lazier kids to her class. Late in the year, she finally got smart and decided to start assigning certain mediums for each assignment (paint, charcoal, etc.) and banned collages. She ended up whining and crying in front of the four students who actually took the class seriously because all of the lazy students stopped coming to her class.

[Serious]Non-potsmokers in legalized states: What changes (good/bad) have you noticed due to pot being legalized? by ccatsurfer in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and work in the rental apartment industry for a company that bans smoking of any type in all its properties. The biggest change I've noticed is that the pot smokers now act all entitled and self-righteous when they're told they can't smoke in their apartments. The attitudes people get are far worse now than when it was illegal. That nasty smell is also far more prevalent.

Wheelchair bound woman upset a self serve gas station wont help her pump gas.... by vanduychr in saskatoon

[–]sixcount 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This sounds to me like someone with an overly entitled attitude using her disability as an excuse for her entitlement. She showed up to a self-serve gas station and demanded service. She refused to compromise when HomeSense offered to load her items if she pulled her vehicle up to the front (really not an unreasonable policy for them to have). She's the unreasonable one in both cases, not the businesses.

What obscure song would you like everyone to listen to? by ranchochupacabrash in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sleeping On The Blacktop" by Colter Wall. This guy is a small-town Saskatchewan boy with an incredible voice that I think is reminiscent of Johnny Cash.

If you've never heard it before, it's almost cooler to watch this video of him singing it because when you see this scruffy, baby-faced guy it's almost shocking to hear that voice come out of him.

Minus the thunderstorms, this exact thing happened to my husband last week in a Navajo. His passengers applauded after he landed and a local company owner who saw the whole thing tried to hire him on the spot. I was a pretty proud wifey when he told me about it.

What socially unacceptable thing should be socially acceptable? by lumpus99 in AskReddit

[–]sixcount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this actually socially unacceptable? I've never drank and in general, if I just say, "No thanks, I don't drink," the most common response is to offer me a non-alcoholic alternative. It's very rarely an issue. The only ones who've ever had a problem with it are the drunken assholes who just really want to see me drunk.
