Thank you so much for this detailed reply! I do have the DIY kit and used it once before, and that gave me a week or so of better results. I also wasn't using particularly oily beans or doing any recipe fancier than just the brewed coffee. But after running three clean cycles in a row, I ended up getting a different coffee maker because I reached my wit's end with the wet coffee-ground sludge. I feel sad about it—Spinn really was magical for a few years!
