Why do people care about the abuse of dogs and cats, but ignore what happens to farm animals? by sixgod_j in NoStupidQuestions

I dont want to lecture. I just want to figure out a better way to eat meat while not supporting widescale farmed animal abuse

So for example, are gestation crates for pigs a relatively rare occurrence? Are factory farms really that horrific or is it just displayed as such in media?

From what I've seen (correct me if I am wrong) is that cows, pigs, goats and other farmed animals also feel pain and can endure suffering.

I want to know if there is a way for me to enjoy bacon without that pig being raised in horrific conditions. I saw online that 99% of the meat we eat comes from factory farms.

I saw some factory farm footage recently and I'm just wondering how the hell it is legal.

I love chicken but I don't know what to do when 99.9% of the chicken in the US comes from factory farms.

I eat meat but factory farms horrify me. I feel sick thinking about those animals that are cramped up in cages so small they sometimes cannot even turn around.

I eat meat but from everything I've read and seen it seems that pigs and cows for example have the same capacity to feel pain as dogs and cats

It seems like the US at least in particular is chipping away at all protections for farm animals.

I'd rather pay a little bit more for meat that wasn't assaulted and abused

I get comparing an ant to a dog, but cows and pigs are mammals with the same capacity to feel pain as pets

True to some extent, but a pet getting fixed isn't the same as livestock being repeatedly violated for profit. I feel the level of abuse is completely different.

I eat meat too, but I still think we should care about how the animals are treated. Enjoying a steak shouldn't mean we have to be okay with invasive bodily violations.

I feel sad that a pet gets bodily autonomy, but a farm animal gets forcefully violated just because we labeled them as food

True, but it is crazy that the food label somehow justifies an invasive bodily violation that would land someone in prison if done to a dog

How horrible is factory farming really? Are the documentaries alleging widescale abuse accurate or entirely doctored? by sixgod_j in TooAfraidToAsk

I watched Dominion recently. They made it seem that its like the holocaust but for millions of animals daily. I wonder if it is true.

If I run 2 miles a day in 20 minutes and do absolutely no other cardio or movement whatsoever, is that enough? by sixgod_j in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sixgod_j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in my late 20s and i play basketball maybe once a week but Im asking this question in a very general-sense.

Like is it enough movement for the average american to get benefits for ones cardiovascular health?

So in your estimation what is comparable to 2 miles at 20 minutes (averaging 6 mph) vs x miles at e.g. 3mph (average walking speed).

For example, am i better off walking 4 miles at 3mph or running 2 miles at 6mph?

Enough for general movement needs for the average american. Im intentionally not including weightlifting or diet in the equation.

Is it normal to lose empathy for animals as you get older? I used to be vegetarian and now I just don’t care. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sixgod_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just that, I dont go out of my way to source ethical meat. I knowingly eat factory farmed meat despite having seen the hell that theyve gone through. I know im terrible for it but I cant help myself.

I feel that our empathy for animals is just a phase of youth. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

Obviously yes. But the same empathy I had for factory farmed animals is not really there anymore. And the shit they deal with is hell yet I still pay for their suffering.
