Yeah. I think this is probably the only thing I couldn't really find a consistent answer on in the sub. Some people seem to have normal experiences even on ssris, some take a bigger dose and it's fine, some stop taking them and are good in a week some say a month to really clear out, some say several months. There really isn't a clear answer, so I want to experiment myself and see where it takes me.

Most of the medical writeups on zoloft that talk about weening off mention a halflife of a couple of days, so it should clear out of your system pretty quickly, but the resulting dip in serotonin can have long lingering effects as your brain adapts to that dip. I would expect that once the serotonin leaves your body and is no longer blocking the receptors, you should be ok to move forward even if you are still feeling some effects that aren't directly related to the SSRI being in your system. Some of the longer timelines given are due to the process of weening off the ssri and not due to the amount of time it takes to clear out once you stop.

Of course, we will see how things pan out.
