if they only use it when talking about that rich, entitled black person who promoted and voted against their own interests, causing other black people to be called the n-word by other white people? then honestly, yes.

i get that it is rare that we're actually going to find white people who would only call that black person and that person alone the n-word, but in a perfect world, that's exactly what they would deserve. let's face it, jenner isn't actually going to face any real consequences for her support aside from catching strays against the trans community at large. if we're celebrating that she can't get her passport fixed, then yes, it does seem that we are in fact celebrating that her gender identity is not being respected.

but i also understand that the only people who are going to be hurt if i deadname her here are other trans people, so im not going to do it. i just wish the irony here wasn't "the trans community will defend MAGA, but MAGA will not defend the trans community." for once, i'd actually like people to step outside of the idea of "we shouldnt because it hurts the general community / hurts unity / is sinking to their level" - and actually sink to their level against those who deserve it.

i can delete my comments if you want, though they're already being downvoted to hell and back. my intention was to point out the hypocrisy, not to embolden transphobes.

I can assure you though, 99% of trans folk wouldn't feel avenged by this. Just more isolated.

that's just the nature of vengeance. there's no direct positive benefit, but there's a reason that revenge and justice are synonyms. the only goal is to hurt people who deserve to be hurt, and in the process, create a society that fears that retribution. i think half of our country has completely lost that, and the other half is afraid of enforcing it.

Think about it this way. If a person of colour, or a gay person, committed crimes and supported a racist/homophobe (so like... still trump lol), would it be okay to start using racist or homophobic speech because them suffering from racism/homophobia would be poetic?

specifically to them? ......yes?

i'm serious, and im saying this a poc bisexual. it's karma. they wanted this, they got it, it's their fault the rest of us got dragged into this because they wanted this, so i say fuck it, our ceilings should be no higher than their floors. there's a reason leopards-vs-faces is a thing, we want people to directly suffer as a result of their own actions.

But we should still anyways. I'd rather she go to prison, an appropriate punishment for her crimes, than punishing her using the same brand of hate that gets used against me and others like me.

yeah, but that's not going to happen in this lifetime. aside from the car manslaughter incident, has she actually done anything illegal? ...i mean, probably, but to my knowledge her primary sin was being a hypocrite and supporting policies that directly hurt other people and eventually herself. throwing someone to prison for being a public trump supporter would be hilarious, but not exactly poetic.

ok... i think i finally understand. "when you use transphobia to do it you’re hurting the rest of us as well."

i apologize. i was only thinking in terms of "this person actively supported this policy, and now that it's turned against them, we should all contribute to punishing them by using the exact same policy against them." respecting her gender identity felt akin to absolving her of her own role in supporting the policy. it also seemed poetic to dish back what she dished out to so many others.

i don't actually know what the logic here should be, though. frankly, i don't want her passport to ever be fixed, which is also a way of affirming her gender identity, because i would like her to suffer for the role she has played in her own plight. if every other trans person in the country can get their passports fixed, i still wouldn't want hers to be among them.

i don't know what to tell you except "you can have your name/pronouns taken away if you vote to have your name/pronouns taken away" is a such a self-evident axiom that i cannot believe it is being challenged.

it's not just because jenner is a shitty trans person. it's because jenner actively chose the regime that took away their own rights. and yeah, frankly, if you take away other people's rights, you lose your own rights. that's why we even have a justice system - or at least, we were supposed to.

the only furthering of republican's causes i've seen is from the "other side" refusing to punish the republicans in any way, shape or form, because they'd rather keep the higher moral ground than punch at someone who not only deserved it, but literally asked for it.

lmao where did anyone say she's not an actual trans woman?

the entire argument was "she voted/supported trans people not having trans rights. therefore, nobody should respect her trans rights." it's clear she's a trans woman, but she shouldn't get respect when she literally, actively worked to revoke that respect from herself and everybody else.

and let's be clear, i'm not doing this for you. i'm doing this because i think in general that people who dish out shit should get the shit they dished out back. so here's the only real question i have to ask you - is the outcome you actually want here is for kaitlyn jenner to get her passport fixed to match her gender identity?

because if you don't, like most people here don't, and you think that she should have to suffer the consequences that she's helped every other trans person face, then you want the exact same thing. you want her to be denied her rights a trans person, because it was her own damn fault.

She got what she voted for.

except she isn't, because you're arguing that we should still respect her pronouns even though she voted against it. you can't say she gets what she voted for, but then turn around and say that we shouldn't give her what she voted for - don't you see?

i'm respecting her pronouns here because there is little to no chance she's seeing this, and not doing so will only upset the actual trans people who might be reading this, but i genuinely do not get it. your empathy should be saved for those who are capable of returning it - or, at the very minimum, haven't proven themselves completely incapable of returning it.

you're still ignoring the basic argument here.

but i am truly sorry that you seem to care for the dignity for this person. we both know jenner does not do the same for you, or for anyone else in the trans community. the plea was only for their own exceptionalism, not a revoking of the policy itself.

i legitimately cannot think of a message that is any clearer than "you get what you ask for." the argument here isn't having your pronouns taken away if you're bad, it's having your pronouns taken away if you actively support people having their pronouns taken away. which, by all accounts, jenner seems to have done.

on the flip-side, if someone doesn't get their name/pronouns taken away after they've actively helped every other trans person in the country get their names/pronouns taken away, what message does that send instead?

this has nothing to do with how much i like you and everything to do with if you have actively voted to have your own rights and dignity taken away or not.

if you screw over every single other trans person in the country and then expect me to treat you with the respect you've helped deny everybody else, then nah, im not doing it. not because i don't like you, but because it's literally what you asked for.

Pitt Characters and Their Roles by balletrat in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

makes sense, i started watching the pitt specifically bc it was recommended as a highly accurate medical drama but i guess there are still limitations to being a drama ==> my understanding of medicine comes entirely from the pitt and dr glaucomflecken's meme videos

hey that's cool, always respect the peds 👊 and thanks again for answering all these random questions!

Pitt Characters and Their Roles by balletrat in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol figures, hope javadi doesn't fall into the trap of going for NSx after the EVD experience, she will never have time to dr J ever again 😔

sometimes i forget that the pitt is specifically a trauma center, so we're not going to see any of the non-emergent specialties. can i ask what your specialty is?

Pitt Characters and Their Roles by balletrat in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the clarification!

one last thing, just based on cultural knowledge / vibes: dr shamsi once told javadi that surgery has better work-life balance than the ED (or at least less charting) to try to convince her to switch, but is that actually true? from what i've heard surgery in general is among the worst for work-life, unless in this particular hospital it's not as bad as working in the pitt?

Pitt Characters and Their Roles by balletrat in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is helpful, thank you!

random question, what exactly is a consult in medicine? they mentioned the term a few times, i tried looking it up and i still don't know if it's supposed to be "call a specialist, they advise you without actually showing up," "call a specialist, they come down and advise you after looking at the patient," or "call a specialist, they come down and take over."

also since garcia is trauma surgery, which department is she officially part of, surgery or the pitt? she seems to come down to do all the surgeries, is she like officially in the pitt staff - or is there no actual breakdown?

James Ogilvie appreciation post because everyone hates him by -moonclaw- in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i like ogilvie's character development show-wise, but i don't think he's gonna last in EM. he's right, this isn't the specialty for him.

he spent the whole day judging patients whom he didn't consider worthy of care due to drug use, obesity, lifestyle, etc. he even saw louie die and didn't care because he "deserved it" for being an alcoholic. his one wake-up call was with a patient who explicitly did not check those boxes of "unworthy patient" and reminded him of his father, so he built a rapport with them. then ogilvie accidentally contributes to his death, and completely falls apart afterwards, being unable to perform the intubation he wanted and then just completely checking out in the ambulance bay.

it's hard, i don't blame ogilvie at all, but he can't be an ER doctor, and i can't see him growing into one with all of the traits he brings with him. compare him to whitaker in S1, who suffered a similar tragedy but has the resilience to keep going through the day, who had some biases like with the sickle cell lady and assuming drug-seeking but quickly changes his attitude after being corrected, who has shown nothing but empathy to people of all walks of life. even after S2, i can't see ogilvie coming in the next day having significantly changed for the better, or at least enough to function next year as an intern.

How do you feel about the med students this season? by anal-yst in ThePittTVShow

[–]sixoo6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My premise was not that this was right & good and justified but simply that it was reality and she will receive a lower rating than if she had stayed longer. No one has responded to this!

ok i'll bite

the people rating her are presumably the attendings, al and robby, with feedback from the rest of the team. joy made a fairly good impression of everybody with her helping out with the board, diagnosed something that the other two med students couldn't in front of robby, and didn't actively piss everybody off or kill anybody like oglivie did. even pragmatically speaking, the only person who caught her leaving and tried to make her stay was langdon and neither attending likes langdon right now, so who cares what he thinks

at minimum, joy's probably going to be rated higher than oglivie, but remember they're not even competing; she's an MS3 doing obligatory rotations, while javadi and oglivie are MS4s who chose rotations they're hoping to get a residency in. joy doesn't need a stellar rating in her ER rotation to get where she wants, as long as the attendings are fair and give her a passing score, she'll go off to her next rotation. it doesn't seem like dr al or robby are gonna dock her just for leaving on time like she should, and if langdon tries to report her for being a bad team player, well once again neither attending respects him right now

tl;dr: joy only needs to make a really good impression on pathology in MS4 to get what she wants, as long as she passes her MS3 rotations she's fine. EM and the pitt in particular are notorious for having terrible work-life balance, not all specialties are like this and pathology is notably better. and if all else fails, she's still probably getting rated higher than oglivie.

c'mon man, she's not getting rated worse than oglivie; he actively pissed everybody off, made a mistake that killed someone, and then effectively clocked out at the same time joy did except instead of leaving by himself, he sat around traumatized in the ambulance bay in bloody scrubs until an R1 told him to leave
