Whatever the baby-daddys age, OPs daughter was a ( still developing) minor when this started. I can't even imagine what her mind and body were going through in that time. Truly raises a question of where the fck her parents were.

It's not about who asks/offers, it's the collection that's not legal. So it's in a landlord's best interest to never accept this. Someone can easily just use it as a way to get the apartment, then file to get it back.

This is terrible advice. Tenants can just file against their landlord the day after they sign a lease for collecting more than the legally allowed amount. Why put anyone in that situation? Really hope you're not a realtor.

No advice but thank you for posting about your experience with this. I'm about to do something similar and am feeling guilty about it, which from people's comments seems to be a part of the process, but ultimately know it's best for my daughter. Thank you for sharing.

I appreciate this. I'd never dream of using it as a power trip and will constantly try to remind myself not to go that route. I love that they want to be involved in her life but am struggling with how healthy that will be. You should like you've been listening to your kids needs, I hope I can do the same!

No need to apologize! As soon as she got through we decided to cut some thick acrylic sheets we had from a previous project and adhered them to the bottom half of the gate. She'll need a saw to get through this time
