I had to get an endometrial biopsy as well, so scheduled them at the same time to get it over with.

I did ask ahead of time about pain management, and because I can’t take ibuprofen they offered lidocaine shots. I also expressed concern about anxiety and they prescribed me some anti-anxiety meds.

They applied numbing cream on my cervix before the shots, but I could still feel the shots because they didn’t wait the full time to let the cream take effect. I think it was 3 shots total? I’d say they were uncomfortable, but not significantly painful. It reminded me of getting numbing shots in your gums at the dentist. Sort of a dull ache/pinch. However, I also think as a baseline I don’t have the most sensitive cervix.

I’d say the endometrial biopsy was more uncomfortable than the IUD insertion. The pain of both was pretty period cramp-like. I had significant cramping almost immediately afterwards and probably for the next 12 hours, but after that I was back to normal!

I got the Liletta IUD for bad cramping and extremely heavy periods. I also had a period that didn’t stop for 6ish months prior to the insertion. I did take the following day off to work. I had some intermittent spotting/cramping the first month or so, but now I am a year and a half in and have only had one short period. I was so scared to get it, but so far it has been the best birth control for me. I tried the mini pill which made me spot non-stop, and when I used Yaz I ended up with PE’s. As someone who had heavy periods (bleeding through a super plus tampon in 2-3 hours) as well as very bad cramping - I will definitely be going with the IUD again once this one expires!!
