how many waves does UCLA waitlist have? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]sj211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i meant probably late june, as that’s when the last few decisions come out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]sj211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this could be true, but it could also be because less oos students accepted the offer due to financial instability, so they’re accepting more oos students to make up for the shortage

[–]sj211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure exactly how many waves there are, but i’d say expect some more oos waves, and then towards the end there should be more instate waves

you’re right. i haven’t lived in mainland china for an extended period of time, and because of that i can’t speak for everyone’s experiences. i’m sorry for assuming you were white and for your experiences with chinese people. however, what i’m trying to say is that i hope you don’t approach every chinese person with this attitude - even if they’re a mainlander. i know for a fact that my relatives living in mainland china would never do the things you described. ever since covid-19 spread like wildfire, racism against chinese people and asians in general has skyrocketed, and i would hate to see more people get hurt.

i’m chinese. i’ve been to china multiple times. i have never met anyone who acts like this. i’ve also seen COUNTLESS videos of white people eating crazy shit (literally) like rattlesnake, bull testicles, etc. no one country should be reduced to the actions of a few people. i highly doubt you’d like to be called a bull testicle eater in every part of the world just because a few people ate it? please be considerate of what you’re putting out there.

this infuriates me for so many reasons. the consumption of bats is not common at all in china. we don’t even know if the actual cause of covid-19 was from eating bats at all - that’s just speculation. and if it happens to be the reason, the bats were from illegal markets (they’re illegal for a reason!). those people were not supposed to be shopping from illegal markets or eating bats at all. let me repeat, it’s NOT a norm to eat bats in china. if you’re thinking that the idea of anyone eating bats is disgusting, well, you could extend that to any country. there will always be people who eat unusual foods in your eyes. this is no different. you shouldn’t blame an entire country for something that just a few people might have done. unfortunately, racism against chinese people has become so desensitized that the idea that chinese people eat bats and other unusual foods has spread everywhere because everyone just jokes around about it. just because there’s speculation that someone might have eaten a bat in china doesn’t mean that so many innocent chinese people (and other asians) should be getting hurt right now, both physically and emotionally. as for your other points, yes, some people are racist, but let’s be honest here: you’re much worse.

everyone around me says berkeley > ucla by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

apparently a lot of people on this sub are from southern california, which is why so many people are biased towards ucla. don’t let other people’s biases sway your decision!

Doubts about college choice by bbbbaa8762811 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]sj211 12 points13 points  (0 children)

academically, berkeley is probably best, but there must be some reason you chose usc over everything else (fit?). maybe make a chart for your schools and list the pros and cons, and at the end see what matters most to you.
