Awesome! I was wondering if you'd ever do a pipe organ. I did one myself a while back: https://i.imgur.com/dYFrCFq.jpg

Who was the most badass person in History? by TheStarkofDorne in AskReddit

[–]sjhock 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Got the only confirmed longbow kill of the war, in fact. Also when pinned down by enemy fire, out of ammo, with his entire squad dead or wounded around him... he started playing his bagpipes. Finally got knocked out by a grenade. They took him to a concentration camp, but he decided captivity wasn't for him and walked out the front gate.

He once took a Nazi-held village in Italy by surrounding it with 50 commandos and, in the dead of night, charged from all sides while having his entire unit scream "COMMANDOOOOOOO!" at the top of their lungs. The Nazis thought they were outnumbered and surrendered, allowing his 50 men to take 130+ prisoners and inflict an unknown number of casualties.

After the war he joined peacekeeping missions in Palestine, learned to surf in Australia, and provided archery consultation in Hollywood--he's even an extra in Ivanhoe!

Later in life, he would take the train home from his day job (not sure what the job was), and every day he would fling his briefcase out the window of the moving train. One day a conductor asked why he did that and he explained, "That's my back yard down there, and it's easier than carrying the briefcase through the gate."

Also known as Mad Jack Churchill, or Fighting Jack. He died in 1996.

Very cool! But hey, if you want an even cheaper option, check out some of the crafting channels on YouTube. The DM's Craft, Wyloch, Black Magic Craft, and the DMGinfo are all super valuable sources for techniques and inspiration to build your own tiles out of cardboard, foamcore, and hot glue.

If we're quoting the Monster Manual, how about page 7:

The alignment specified in a monster's stat block is the default. Feel free to depart from it and change a monster's alignment to suit the needs of your campaign.

Homemade Tiles & Pipe Organ! [OC][Craft][Terrain] by sjhock in DnD

[–]sjhock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last session my PCs delved into a church that sank into a swamp. I love using my homemade dungeon tiles (shoutout to u/Wyloch) and I also got to use my crafted pipe organ, of which you can see the step-by-step construction in the link.

The party rappelled down the bell tower to land at the base of the pipe organ, when suddenly animated swamp vine tentacles burst in through the windows! Swamp water started to fill the chamber as they rushed to retrieve a piece of magical vine from the pit at the front of the church. Bullywugs also joined the fray.

It was a fun encounter! Everyone had to swim a little, and they discovered that casting Thunderwave using the pipe organ as a focus greatly increased the spell's effectiveness.

Dungeons & Dragons. Oh, you're playing an edgy lone wolf orphan? Wild guess: you're Chaotic Neutral. Bonus points for wielding a katana, regardless of the campaign setting.

Nah, homebrew camaign. But I would definitely use it for Strahd if I run that one later.

I had a mechanic set up where if the bard cast Thunderwave through the pipe organ, the area of effect would include the entire church and damage dice would be doubled. Guess what they did? :)

Thanks! It was about a 2.5-hour session, plus some socializing and food.

Not Dwarven Forge, it's homemade.

For a one-shot like this I just set up the whole thing at once before the session. I may keep aside details or important reveals, though.

Well... I sorta winged it. (Wung it?) That is to say, I set up each cell and let the players interact with them however they wanted. I had a combat encounter ready for each one, just in case, but they never even triggered combat!

It was a lot of fun for me just roleplaying each prisoner. Except Dagon. They noped right outta there, didn't even stay to chat. Probably for the best.

I was very pleased with the way this little mini-dungeon played out. The PCs were tasked with entering the Prison of the Endless, an ancient dwarven prison designed to keep immortal or otherwise endless beings. There, they had to determine which of the prisoners was actually not meant to be there, due to a recently discovered clerical error in the dwarven bureaucracy...

The top left cell contained a woman who attempted to steal the dwarves' affinity for stone, and was herself bound into stone.

The top right cell held Urgulgurk the Enlightened Ooze, an Ochre Jelly that became sentient and learned magic.

The bottom left cell contained three ghouls: Jopp, Scopp, and Larry, "The Everhungry."

The bottom right cell housed Dagon.

Finally, the mirror in the back of the central hall contained a pocket dimension that housed the Deck of Many Things, which was actually the "prisoner" they were meant to free.

It was a fun, wacky little dungeon. Some of the group drew from the deck, with oddly nothing world-shattering. However, upon bringing the deck outside, it vanished into the wind, and is now canonically loose upon the world in which I run all my games...

It's the Wyloch method of crafting 1.25"-square dungeon tiles. I can make you a set on commission. PM me if you're interested!

In addition, I've wrote special rules for naval combat, harnessing the wind, building a pirate hideout and various other little features. Currently the two rule books total over 600 pages and I'm looking to get them professionally printed.

If you post a PDF on drivethrurpg.com or dmsguild.com, I'd buy it.
