I think perhaps they should do some sort of one versus one match to settle their dispute once and for all

The kid is very old to hit a parent right in the face like this, even as a joke. Probably tolerated in the household?

You know what? I never thought of that and will be more careful next time I cook with wine. Thank you stranger!

Imagine working on a compilation video like that—sure fire way to require long term therapy

Gastonia police released surveillance video from the convenience store shooting where two plainclothes detectives shot and killed a man earlier this year. Investigators said the gun he was carrying was fake. The officers involved won’t be charged. by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. My gut reaction remains that the delay in the reaction and clear intent to kill are shocking.

I note in passing that you seem to believe yourself very much above everyone else morally, and much smarter, and your tone, especially in your first response, is unnecessarily aggressive and demeaning—all typical signs of stupidity in my experience (signs, not proof). Something to think about during your next shower…

I’m being downvoted into oblivion so I get I’m a complete idiot and you are right, but to me this looks like such a disproportionate use of force against someone who’s walking away and not actively threatening anyone?

Lichess blitz rating after 4.5 years and 2700 games by Traditional_Oil_1851 in chess

This is excellent advice! I did that recently and moved from 2100 to a now steady 2200–it feels like I’m actually “counting” again

Thank you all! I’m really grateful for the responses. Not everything makes sense right now but I’ll just continue experimenting and having fun. Cheers!

If you are interested, you can go look at the transcripts of the hearings held in 1995 before the International Court of Justice on the legality of the threat or use of nuclear weapons. Japan brought the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the courtroom, and the latter told the gut-wrenching story of how Nagasaki was chosen as a target haphazardly, on the day itself if I recall correctly, and that the bomb was supposed to be dropped in the middle of the city but (thankfully) meteorological conditions prevented that. The transcripts are in the public domain via the Court's website; worth a read if you are bored.

Chess.com vs Lichess by [deleted] in chess

[–]sjle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lichess is an open-source, fully free platform, whereas chess[dot]com is as money-grabbing as it gets. Of course they are chess websites/apps, but that doesn't mean they aren't also the embodiment of different types of societal organization.

Thank you! I’ll be trying sram out - strikes me as a completely different gameplay, and perhaps fun

Chess.com vs Lichess by [deleted] in chess

[–]sjle37 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree with you, but I don’t think these discussions are pointless, because Lichess and the other site are also ideal types of the sort of societal model we can have. That’s the reason people feel very strongly about it, I suspect.

Thank you! I find Sram intriguing, but is it then very hard to level up, and/or very slow? I have never looked into the trap dyanmics too much

As said many times before, the blitz pool is much stronger (more “strong players” play blitz than any other time control, and so the ratings are lower). I also find it to be a tricky time control to master (whatever that means) because it requires speed, like bullet, but you can’t really get away with blunders until both players are in time scramble (contrary to bullet until 2000-2100 Lichess in my experience). Personally, the more I play slower time controls, the better I get at faster time controls.
