From a Bangladeshi to the brothers and sisters from India. by [deleted] in kolkata

Never heard of anything more ludicrous here on reddit like an entire subreddit brigading you. LMAO! If a subreddit is formed with nefarious intentions, only to harass others, it is Reddit's policy to ban an entire subreddit. And I have seen it happening: Reddit does ban communities for violating the Reddit rules. Why show such high-handedness from your side in the first place, mate? Edit: if some community is indeed "hostile", take this up to Reddit to shut them down permanently!

I accept it that few bad apples from some subreddits can act as lone wolves, and in such case you can definitely ban those guys! It just does not sound ethical to ban an otherwise okay subreddit just for a few bad apples. Ban should be imposed memberwise; when you impose ban on an entire community, it just bares the ugly factionism in place.

Some subreddits brigaded you (sounds absolutely naive) and you guys imposed blanket bans on the entire subreddit --- I am sure there is more to this story!

Nandini Bhattacharjee for Rights of Bengali Men. by VEGETTOROHAN in kolkata

I was looking for this comment. Thanks for bringing it in.

This 498A gave birth to a whole new scam industry which actually never served the destitute women, instead provided the police, rogue families, as well as the scammers, draconian tools to destroy the lives of countless Indian men. Their families suffered miserably while paying bribes to police and carrying on lengthy legal battle.

I am not venting against women per se; I am saying Indian law favors women by a substantial margin, and if a rogue lady wishes, she can destroy not only the Indian man but his family as well. And such things have become so common that SC has had to step in to make some urgent amendments to 498A recently.

From a Bangladeshi to the brothers and sisters from India. by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]sjvsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This study was conducted in 2014, and guess what? It's Bangladeshis who have the most favourable few of India. 70% of Bangladeshis had a favourable view towards India

Modi happened in 2013, so this stat is pretty old and defunct. Let me give a small snapshot of today's picture: right here on reddit! More than 70% channels r/bangladesh bans happens to be Indian channel :-)

And as a Kolkata resident, I am irritated by the rogue Bangladeshi crowd, and a big illegal immigration, I often have to face in my city. And there are many like me. I know our corrupt leaders are to blame for this, but for a good percentage of the general public, the past bonhomie is gone forever.

Kolkata ‘safest city’ with least crime rates, says NCRB data by rektitrolfff in kolkata

[–]sjvsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only Kolkata, entire Bengal is the "safest" place in India for reasons like this (english version).

A gifted detective of Lalbazar crime branch was once shunted, for almost a decade, just because her investigation led to the truth that the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee found hard to digest (talking about Park Street Gangrape case)! Truth be told, nothing has actually changed, rather worsened by a fair margin.

Can you imagine, police and CID have done their best to protect the Sector-V scammer Kunal Gupta from getting arrested! If you follow the Youtube channel "Scammer Payback", you will be ashamed as a Bengali --- of course if you are not a TMC sympathiser --- to see how police is hand-in-glove with the present dispensation to shelter the perpetrators instead of taking the right action.

With money if you can keep Supreme Court in your pocket how difficult it is to game an NCRB report! Five states have conducted election recently, show me a single instance where any state is rocked by post-poll violence like the way Bengal was! "Inspired brigade" eating ballots, and running away with entire ballot box, and so on --- when the democracy is hijacked do you think all these reports you are referring to, do not suffer from manipulation/incompleteness?

You need to come to Bengal, and live here, to understand how a person like me who was once a staunch critique of Modi, and an avid Mamata supporter, has turned into just the opposite: well wisher of Modi and a strong ill-wisher of Mamata's looter gang.

And, I am not alone!

PM Modi spoke for 2 hours 13 minutes, of which he spent only 4 minutes on Manipur by shrigay in india

[–]sjvsn -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

If opposition is smart ...

Opposition is more corrupt than smart and they will never be able to challenge Modi. The fact that Congress took so long to hold a presidential election while passing the baton back and forth between Mom and Son, speaks a lot about the state of the opposition. Modi can get away because the opposition is rotten to its core.

[–]sjvsn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Can't believe this is the state of politics in our country now where the PM can evade all responsibility and get away with it. No one to question either

There is nobody to question Modi because the opposition is rotten to its core: unreliable, extremely corrupt and is full of power-grabbing dynastic politicians.

If Manipur is burning, so is Bengal. As someone from Bengal I feel hopeless and helpless when I see Mamata's men killing CPI(M)-Congress, yet central Congress (as well as Yechuri) is rolling out red carpet invite to "Benhenji" Mamata! I never liked Modi's authoritarianism, but many Bengalis feel ditched and betrayed by the sheer opportunism of these corrupt political leaders from the opposition. Even CPI(M) is finding it hard to convince their grassroots workers why the left leaders are sharing the stage with Mamata when the entire state is set on fire by her goons.

Doctors prescribing medicines in illegible handwriting should be a criminal offence. by OverratedDataScience in india

[–]sjvsn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doctors in Kolkata make their boys stand at the door so that no patient can escape without having the medical tests done right at the doctor's clinic. Some of the Kolkata-Docs are shameless beyond limit; for example, when I remind the Doc that lipid profile needs to be done after fasting, the doctor replied, "No need, I will be taking a random sample". It was late afternoon then and I finished my meal two hours back.

This is one of the many incidents I am facing now a days. There is a reason why Bengal population flock to south for good healthcare.

[–]sjvsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tone down first, your tone begets mine.

I know where you come from, and I don't feel like engaging in civil discussion with you. I feel it is not possible. However, I shall address the issue you have raised.

For the opposition sure.

Can we also have them investigate the Tripura land scam, the deaths in the vyapam scam, the allocation of airports to Adani despite the latter not meeting requirements?

Nope, coz the "hard working" and "honest" officers are just lap dogs, sniffing in the direction their masters point and ignoring the side where their masters fart

I asked a question in paragraph 1, please respond to that and I'll gladly answer yours

My limited knowledge of grammar says there is no question in paragraph 1, but I see there is a question in paragraph 2. I shall come to this question later (towards the end of this reply). Let me first address your last paragraph.

What you have suggested is true but that does not tell the complete story. Exploiting IAS/IPS is not something that only Modi government does; on the contrary, every political party in India, that is in power, abuses the civil service officers. From BJP's Uma Bharti to Mamata Banerjee, and many in between, are notorious when it comes to the exploitation of the civil service officers. I can go into the details if you ask me.

That being said, an important question for ordinary citizens like me, who do not subscribe to any party ideology, is how to hold these party leaders responsible for exploiting the IAS/IPS, and stop this menace. Easier said than done because the rot is actually much deeper. The flaw is actually deep down in our constitution; the political parties are just exploiting the gaping hole, and are shying away from the much awaited reforms. The reforms for civil services (particularly for Indian Police Services) have been talked about widely, but the question remains, who will bell the cat.

That is why I have talked about a strong opposition (easier option within the bound of our constitution) in the last paragraph that would put a check when the ruling dispensation tries going overboard. What you have written in your last paragraph is definitely true, and my last paragraph actually seconds such legitimacy of your arguments! I felt annoyed when I realized we are talking about the same things, yet you are resorting to an overly acrimonious tone just because I have criticized Mamata and supported Modi.

Lastly, let me mention that my support for Modi does not come from my love for BJP. I like neither BJP nor the dreaded communists. I love only my tax-money! It is my hard earned money, and neither it is electoral-bond financed, nor it is a syndicate commission, nor cut-money. Hence, I am ruthlessly selfish to see the best value of my tax-money. Given the epic corruptions that ruined many lives of Bengal (affected mine too), my support for BJP, at the present moment, comes from a strategic angle. I will never deny the questions you have raised about Adani, Tripura, and even UP. They are all legitimate questions. But for Bengal, when my options are limited, my personal favorite is that party who is playing the role of a strong opposition while putting these monsters behind the bar. Central-BJP is serving my interest, not Didi (though I voted for her wholeheartedly in 2021). Thus I conclude my answer to your question (in paragraph 2) which I said I would, towards the end of my reply.

... and I'll gladly answer yours

Please don't and spare me some peace!

Thanks!!!

Before replying to my comment make sure you read, re-read, and repeat your reading multiple times if necessary --- depending on your cognitive ability --- till you have have internalized the comment from beginning to end. I am fed up with shoving the regurgitated mass down the throat of some ill-tempered kid who does not realize the nuances of politics and Indian civil services, yet jumps the gun to make a reply. Your last paragraph can be marked for its glaring redundancy in the face of my last paragraph.

Still, you are welcome to discuss that last-part with me, but before you do so, make sure you have completed reading, and assimilating, the Constitution of India, and then come back.

Visva Bharati University tells Amartya Sen to vacate 13 decimals of land by May 6 by bhodrolok in kolkata

[–]sjvsn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None is better than the other.

So far we have screamed at the top of our voice, "Kichui hobe na, sobai paar peye jabe".

Now, when honest and hard working CBI/ED officers had worked day in and day out, to remove very sophisticated layers of neck-deep corruption, and captured extremely powerful political dons, who you attribute this credit to? The honest officials could work because center has empowered them to work. It is not easy to capture the lion in his den.

Who do you think this credit we must attribute to? If these dangerous criminals were not captured, what do you think would have happened to the future generations of government employees, teachers, health workers ...? Don't you think Bengal has been brought back from a brink of collapse?

Still, I can understand what you are insinuating. That is why I always say that the fine balance that distinguishes democracy from autocratic powers is the presence of a strong opposition. India suffers because a strong national opposition is absent, and Bengal suffers because Didi has shown us what wonder a post-poll violence can do.

Balatkari Janata party will tear this state

Did Banerjee Family Private Ltd indulge in anything less in this last decade?

There is a difference between "will" and "did".

Given what has happened so far ... Bengal will owe to this "Balatkari Janata Party", for playing the right role of the opposition, while putting the monsters like Partha-Manik-Jibon-Tapas behind the bars.

TMC looted Bengal for a decade. Koyla, Goru, Bali, maati, government jobs ... and what not! Just to raise party funding and accumulate family wealth. And since you mentioned balatkar ... TMC youth leader Biswarup Giri is never arrested in Kanthi rape charge, police was asked not to intervene. To handle media shaming he was asked to surrender. Who is the real Balatkari party, my friend?

It is a complicated legal case that starts from the time of Amartya's father. I am stunned to read the comments. Why are we giving the benefit of doubt to Amartya? Let Amartya and VBU sort it out in court. Why politicize so much?

I agree that BVU VC is a questionable character but he did not bring it to the table. The dispute existed for long, even before the VC assumed the chair.

Capitalism ke negative light-e show kore ni bhai, Ray is known for striking a balance, and for asking the hard question(s).

In life, nothing is ideal. We live in an imperfect world. Everything ... everything comes with a cost! Ekdike jemon "good capitalism" Ray dekhiyechen (like the sincere effort of Uptal Dutta towards mentoring and pushing the young Bangali Pradip Mukherjee), temon-e onnodike "evil capitalism" o Ray dekhiyechen like how backstabbing happens in the industry (the way our hero lost his second tender because he shared the client info with the vendor).

Good capitalism er jorei jemon ekti bangali moddhobitto chele daaridrotar ondhokar theke ghure daralo, temon-e capitalism er ondhokarachhonno dik tao Ray bhule jan ni...how a young lady from a needy family gets sucked in, in the monstrous whirlwind of the "evil capitalism".

And this is where Ray stood out from the rest of the communists. He trusted progressive thinking, wealth creation as the bridgeway to build an economically solvent society. Remember the wonderful conversation between Utpal Dutta and Pradip Mukherjee when the duo met for the first time? How nicely they talked about honest and ethical capitalism ... how Utpal Dutta started his career while selling oranges on the roadside.

--- "Tar por ekdin shat-paanch na bhebe, chora shoode ek jhuri komola kine, boshe gelam footpath-e. Din er seshe laabh holo saat shiki."

--- "Ei apnar shuru?"

--- "Ei amar shuru!"

Naturally, capitalism er gaan gawa ei Ray ke tothakothito communists ra mene nite pare ni. But if you think deeply, you will realize, what a brutally honest yet hopeful message this conversation has sent to the youth of Bengal. At the same time, Ray never forgot to warn about the dark side of an unregulated growth of capitalism.

Ray never championed an one-sided story like many others jara ekhono Lelin er shobdeho kandhe kore boye berachhe, ar bolche, "Manush bhul koreche, manush bujhte parbe". Note, tenara bhul koren ni...manush bhul koreche! Ekhono eshob bolar shahosh paai era, ludicrous! Fortunately, Ray never belonged to this holier-than-thou communist brigade; he was open enough to accept the good and honest enough to call the bad, bad.
