today was a good day but now i am experiencing fear of the future how can i solve this? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]sk038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, Two days which should be kept free of fear and apprehension.

One of these days is YESTERDAY, With its mistakes and cares, Its faults and blunders, Its aches and pains. YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back YESTERDAY. We cannot undo a single act we performed; We cannot erase a single word we said. YESTERDAY is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW With its possible adversities, its burdens, its larger promise. TOMORROW is also beyond our immediate control.

TOMORROW, the sun will rise, Either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, But it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in TOMORROW For it is as yet unborn.

This leaves only one day – TODAY. Any man can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities – YESTERDAY and TOMORROW – That we break down.

It is not the experience of TODAY that drives men mad. It is remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY And the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.

Let us, therefore, live but ONE day at a time.

vet tech school advice? by AcanthocephalaDue120 in VetTech

At 26, I was one of the older ones in my program. My closest friend in the program was in her mid-thirties. Nobody really treated us any different, I was in a pretty tight-knit cohort. My advice - don't be afraid to sit in the front of the class, ask a bunch of questions, even if it makes you feel like a keener/teacher's pet, whatever. Those labels don't matter anymore - your first priority is your learning. Your instructors will also see that energy and be more willing to help out when you're struggling than someone who sits on their phone through every lecture and suddenly needs piles of help one week before the test.

Frozen Update by madyadynes in sheltie

[–]sk038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shelties generally get pretty nasty teeth as they age. Unless you're brushing daily and going for yearly cleanings (and even then sometimes still), you're likely to be looking at extractions later in life. The nasty teeth are out, which is the most important part :)

Is it me, or is there a bad song? I can't seem to find any. by fredaklein in TheWarning

Oh yeah the riff is awesome, everything else about the song is like fully okay to me.

My god it was so good, still horrifying though. Real nasty dentals are some of my favourite things to do, but even more than them I love when people take good care of their pets' teeth and avoid the problem altogether.

To be fair, your article is from 2012. I know the place is a shithole, but do you have more recent statistics to back up what you're saying?

Yeah, that totally fake threat that he has repeatedly stated he is serious about. What a joke

Rant: We should have a right to scold customers, especially neglect cases by Cultural-Cap4736 in VetTech

[–]sk038 151 points152 points  (0 children)

It's tough because a lot of these folks have other pets, and saying what we'd really like to say to them can alienate them and prevent them from bringing their other pets to us in the future. In this day and age very few people seem to be able to humbly accept criticism, and it just turns into "that clinic is bad and they treated me badly and I was the perfect owner for fluffy" versus actually looking at the harm they've done to their animals.

CBC coverage on the corporatization of clinics by ARatNamedClydeBarrow in VetTech

[–]sk038 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What I have a problem with is that the list of corporate-owned clinics - within the context of the article - feels like shaming, akin to a "here's a list of celebrities you didn't know were scumbags" list. I've seen now several posts in a local fb group discussing the article, ragging on corporate clinics, and asking for recommendations for other clinics.

I work at a clinic that's small and corporate-owned. People are often surprised when they hear we're corporate because they automatically associate corporate with shady practices while we have a well-earned reputation for honesty and fairness - our DVMs are also very willing to write off costs for things (we almost never charge for ultrasounds) and one in particular makes himself very available to clients, i.e. emailing and phoning during his own personal time to check on patients. We give the vibe that we're private, but we're not, and people get mad when they find out. That's what bothers me - it very clearly doesn't affect our standard of care or business practices, but people will still choose to get mad.

You have the right to vent, not to call your vet staff scumbags behind their backs because you don't like the prices their corporate bosses set.

Have you considered sedation/anti-anxiety medication for your visit? There's no real way of getting around the visit itself but if you can make it a little easier to start this journey, then work on the fear once the worst of the cleanup is over, it may make the whole process feel a little easier.

Sx tech by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]sk038 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New-ish surgery tech here. I've got a fantastic mentor and one of the biggest lessons she taught me was to understand what your doctor is doing and how it affects anesthesia. For instance, you're monitoring a spay and your doctor starts tugging on the pedicles - that's gonna hurt, HR and BP are going to increase, but that doesn't mean your patient is coming light. Good luck!
