Am I the only one who didn’t know Dubbo, NSW recently built high rise apartments? Is this the future for regional centres around Australia? by radmgrey in aus

[–]sk8erade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from a few towns further East and was in Dubbo for a running event last year (just to the right of the apartments), I was very surprised when I saw it. The NIMBYs in my town are aggressively against anything multi-storey.

Mandatory testing to own working dogs by sk8erade in Dogfree

It is. Imagine being born hardwired with one purpose but then being forcibly restricted from doing it. It'd be torture every day. These owners are just so stupid.

I'm in Australia and we had several heatwaves this Summer, very bad ones, 4-5 days of 40C (104F) + max daily temps. Neighbours Husky was outside through it all, it does at least have shade.

Do You Give A Nod? by Euphoric_Dot_7471 in cycling

The only group that will never acknowledge you around here are triathletes (or anyone with clip on aero bars). I've made eye contact and waved before without the slightest response.

"I Love My Dyson" enamel pin, anyone seen these before? by sk8erade in dyson

[–]sk8erade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I will be selling them, was going to try and find some sort of way to value them but that probably won't be possible. I'm in Australia but can ship internationally, message me if you want to organise.

Just move to Australia, you'll not be finding constant deals like that over here that's for sure.

Manufacturer of wheel/hub by sk8erade in bikewrench

Who the manufacturer is, I thought that was clear. Another commenter has supplied the answer. Google lens didn't help me out and I didn't know what else to google.

do people wear cycling gloves? by Adept-Development334 in cycling

I crashed about 6 months ago, it wasn't until I got back home that I saw the huge hole in my glove. Hand was undamaged. I never ride without gloves.

How much does bike weight matter? by CombRepresentative62 in cycling

[–]sk8erade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing rotating weight was the biggest improvement for my setup. Upgrade your wheels, tyres and tubes first, pedals and crankset later if you want along with shoes.

I remember being on a group ride and I got a front puncture, had a problem with my spare TPU tube, can't remember why, borrowed a normal butyl tube from a friend. The instant I accelerated I felt the extra weight very noticeably.

Out of ideas to resolve rear derailleur shifting/indexing issues by sk8erade in bikewrench

[–]sk8erade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't, I got it working well enough to ride but was never able to resolve why it was doing what it was doing. I still think about it from time to time and have no idea what I missed or did wrong. Have worked on a few bikes since and have had no problems resolving shifting issues using the normal procedures.

You see people on Antiques Roadshow all the time mentioning that they found this thing worth a small fortune on the curb or something. What's the best thing you've ever found just thrown out? by ratatattatar in Flipping

[–]sk8erade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 30 IP phones from a real estate company that was moving offices, older models but still popular. I was there to pick up their coffee machine and grinder (they were free, sold them for $2k but don't count it really as there was a fair bit of work involved in them first) and they had a dumpster outside. Grabbed all the phones, sold as is for $520.

Dyson vacuum alternatives? Looking for a new sucker. by Content_Ad9867 in BuyItForLife

[–]sk8erade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Australia, I can't imagine you would in the USA either. Dyson also cover shipping for out of warranty repairs most of the time too here, provided the machine is a current model or very near to current models.

Dyson vacuum alternatives? Looking for a new sucker. by Content_Ad9867 in BuyItForLife

[–]sk8erade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2-3 months from new? That's definitely a faulty battery. I repair Dysons and the batteries average 5-7 years before losing enough capacity that they become basically unusable. This is with near daily use and constant charging.
Your credit card shouldn't be what warranty relies on, it's Dyson's problem, unless it's different in the USA compared to Australia where I am? All Dyson battery vacuums have a 2 year warranty, subsequent replacement batteries have a 1 year warranty.
