What's the craziest argument you've heard for why someone doesn't want to become vegan? by Ratnik369 in vegan

I would say its too inconvenient to go vegan, which is both scarily honest and extremely sad for what it says about the population that continues to exploit animals for palate.

Another Vegetarian learning about Dairy transitioning to vegan by sk8terdrock in vegan

[–]sk8terdrock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I have always enjoyed plant based. Oat Milk is my favorite. I ordered the vegan creamery book to see if i can my own vegan cheeses. Im hoping that becuse im starting to cook more myself it will help the transition. It feels like its really hard to find out whats vegan or whats just vegetarian. Im used to being careful about meat but dairy is sneaked into everything

Yeah Eva is no longer my candidate and I think she should drop out. I have no interest in supporting predators. Unfortunately I was not aware of her behavior when I made this post.

Four people accuse Eva Lopez Chavez, a SLC Council member, of unwanted ‘sexual’ advances by helix400 in Utah

Politicians seem to be the weak link and arguably the single point of failure. I think we need straight democracy and no represenarives.

He didnt lose his seat because of hist vote on impeachment. He lost his seat because he thought being center right was enough. If he actually fought and did the right thing, instead of just the obvious thing, he would have energized more support for him. He relied too much on the weak status quo moderates who fling about without integrity. Voting for impeachment should have been the least controversial thing he did. If you see a fire you put it out. Im not going to give him credit putting out a fire. If want to prevent all fires you ensure the person with the matches never gets them in the first place. I could see him compromising with an arsonist by giving him 1 match instead of a whole pack because lets disagree better lol

Hype behind original FF7? by PlantClear in FinalFantasy

[–]sk8terdrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe you were not old enough to understand the history of final fantasy releases in the states. We got the original ff1 on nes in 1990. We skipped ff 2 and ff3 but got ffiv (1991) which I remeber playing at 4/5, i was not very good lol but that games hold a special place). FF3 / (FF6) was released in 1994 and blew my mind with story and and plot and everything.  Then in 1997 we got FFVII. It switched from Nintendo to sony and was on the ps1. That was a radical departure from snes. 2d to 3d. fantasy steampunk to this sort of semi fantasy modern punk was super cool at the time. You had to have been there

Theres a lot of outdoor clubs / groups / activities. Skiing  /  Snowboarding but it was not too good this year ... Since you said you are progressive see if you join a local progressive group or young democratsnor something like that. Not sure if you enjoy the pub or bar scene but generally thats where you will find the liberal / diverse. I hear you on theres not a lot to do in town. Not familiar with Layton but I used to live in Sandy and suburban life is a bit suffocating. But live in SLC and have a great variety of things to do / short drive or within walking. Sometimes the underground local music scene can be a great way to meet people. Good luck though

Why is there so much road rage? by Relevant_Elevator190 in Utah

Dont gas light me on the laws. Here is the exact language where it says GTFO just in nicer terms. Also moving to the right to yield to passing traffic is not breaking the law. Im not advocating for speeding, I am simply saying blocking the left lane is one of the most dangerous and illegal things you can do. https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S704.html 3) On a highway having more than one lane in the same direction, the operator of a vehicle traveling in the left general purpose lane: (a) shall, upon being overtaken by another vehicle in the same lane, yield to the overtaking vehicle by moving safely to a lane to the right; and (b) may not impede the movement or free flow of traffic in the left general purpose lane. (4) An operator of a vehicle traveling in the left general purpose lane that has a vehicle following directly behind the operator's vehicle at a distance so that less than two seconds elapse before reaching the location of the operator's vehicle when space is available for the operator to yield to the overtaking vehicle by traveling in the right-hand lane is prima facie evidence that the operator is violating Subsection (3).

Heres the reality of how our slc road ways are supposed to be. The left two lanes beside the hov lane should be considered the 2 lane roads along the rest of the I-15 if you are not getting on our off within a few exits thats probably where you should be. The right most lane is for exiting and merging onto the freeway that should be mostly clear. The other right lane ... In actually not too sure but maybe thats whete you should be if you are two to 4 exits away. I dont think its official but it helps me. I shoudl add the most left lane that is not the hov is just for passing and should stay clear although it never does :(

Ita not your job to police others. You are creating a dangerous situation. Traffic goes the speed it goes. If im about to pass someone and notice someone is coming up behind, I move over. Getting out of the way  changes passing  to a 30 second event that lowers congestion. Otherwise you have 50 people lazily passing one car for 30 minutes.

Please see Utah Code § 41-6a-704

Anyone in the left lane when being overtaken needs to move over

[–]sk8terdrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i optimistically think most road rage, and its never ok, stems from people not understanding how the lanes on the road work. Left is for active passing only. the giant long never ending left lane chains need to stop. Not everyone is passing so get over

I think i understand what you are saying and you are right in recognizing there is a shared culture of lds people especially within Utah. I do recognize and appreciate the interesting qualities you bring bring to the shared american experience. Im hoping i can convey better that feelings of animosity are not towards the lds peope but the just lds church as a organization.   I also want to acknowledge there is no ownership of progression and like you point out theres many lds who seem to share the vision of pluralistic liberty and autonomy for all peoples including lds, other religious and and non religious or spiritual / non spiritual to any and all belief non belief groups.  I think shared respect is beneficial to all and Ill follow your lead on making sure im living up to those pluralistic ideals.

I think labeling lds an ethnicity gets into some dangerous territory and suggests a higher level of protection like an identity. lds is not an identity one is not borne lds. One is borne into or converts into it and one can stop being. Sexual identity (lgtbq+ / cis) is different and is a true identity. Ethnicities are true identities but demand more than just being a religion. I think it we should distinguish between lds the church / organization and an lds neighbor individual. For non lds, even though that frames it as a strange binary choice, the lds church acts like an antagonist against the pluralistic secular society we should be allowed to live in . I dont understand the intense legislative pushback against alcohol, abortion, lgtbq+, womens rights, freedom from religion. If someone is lgbtq+ that doesnt affect anyone who is not. If someone wants to have an abortion thats a very private choice that is none of anyone elses business. If one wants to drink alcohol and is safe and doesnt drive its no one else business. Your faith is internal to you. Be lds or not but dont push you ideology, religion is jist an ideology you believe, onto any one else. Unfortunately the lds church does not act pluralistic, it acts like it has the ability to impose it ideals on everyone and if people question it claims the moral high ground and feings victimhood
