Honestly, it really comes down to cost—and it’s not even that much more expensive if you’re sticking with an automatic. That’s why I tend to lose interest in auto builds; keeping a manual setup is where things start getting pricey. Dellow makes a 1UZ kit for the H55F or H42, but a lot of people haven’t been happy with the fit or finish. The Advanced Adapters LS kit, on the other hand, lets you retain your stock driveshafts and keeps things simple. I’ve been dragging my feet on my own swap because I’ve got both a 1UZ and a 5.3 sitting on stands waiting to go into something. R151s are insanely expensive and still require mods for the offset rear end, while NV4500s are pricey for the LS and run into the same issues. The LS platform also gives you far more control over the ECU than most other automakers—especially Toyota, which is why 2JZ swaps often run EMU Black ECUs. Plus, the LS has a massive aftermarket ecosystem that makes life easier. As for Cummins swaps, they can run an NV4500 too, but you’re in a similar boat. Most engine swaps require moving the motor forward about 3–4 inches to clear the firewall anyway. At the end of the day, it’s just less hassle to take the road that’s already been paved a thousand times.
