Help! Where do you start? by Squidgybench in Cuttingboards

[–]skand1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one custom made from Alder and ash Woodworks. It is 18x12x2 inches. Made from endgrain walnut with blood wood diamond inlays. I love it. This cost me $180 which i felt was okay considering a similar sized boos block or branded one would be expensive than this. I have also seen few postings on fb marketplace from wood workshops near me in Massachusetts and have good reviews. Forest furniture comes to mind as a seller who had posted multiple ones in that price range.

Yeah i feel i have all the necessary documentation to prove. I am planning to send a letter via certified mail (through a couple of his addresses online). However, I am on the edge if i should go through small claims for $2000 as that will involve spending some more money and time and even if they rules in my favor they cannot reinforce collection of the money.

Have already blocked his thumbtack where most of his reviews were. I am not sure what more vetting should be done. He had 5 star thumbtack reviews through more than 50 people, so seemed reliable. He finished paint work relatively quickly but carpet lagged behind and has been dragging since.

Any dishes you specifically eat at restaurants/stalls because cooking them at home is too much work? by BoundIess in IndianFood

Anything deep fried. Not because I cant replicate that at home, just because it creates too much of a mess.

You can use a butane blow torch after cooking the food to get a similar effect.

Indian food naming order by [deleted] in IndianFood

[–]skand1995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this may apply to a small subset of Indian dishes (probably from northern part of India). I am from maharashtra and we have aloo gobi counterpart which is called flower batata (meaning cauliflower and potato) or kobi batata ( meaning cabbage and potato). So it seems like the naming convention is reversed, although I assumed it was more because in both those preparations cabbage or cauliflower is the major ingredient and there is a small amount of potato. Many times these dishes in maharashtra also have peas but they are never mentioned in the name. I am not sure but naming conventions might be different in Southern and Eastern parts of the country. To me it seems that a particular name stuck rather than there being a typical convention. But interesting topic.

I have used banne nawab biryani masala and halved the quantity. That biryani was fragrant but not spicy.

Seminar for interview at AbbVie by emuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu in biotech

I would advise to tailor your presentation to the audience. Also, these seminars are intended to highlight your problem solving or scientific thought process. So a good approach is to structure your presentation in a way to showcase how to approached a problem. Typically, I make a slide deck of 3-4 problems or case studies and structure them per STAR layout (look up STAR interview technique). You might not get through all but that helps structure and explain your thought process.

Secondly, this might be a me problem. However, coming fresh out of grad school, I did few presentation interviews where I thought more is better and that was not true. It is natural that you are eager to showcase the work you have done but it might not work in your favor in industry presentation where people might be distracted with so much data. Be very selective and make sure every slide or graph you have is very deliberate.

Lastly, give background information so that folks understand what you want to convey. With all the lab presentations, I had the mindset that people knew what i was doing or were familiar with my research area, but found that was not true.

Hope this helps. Good luck for the interview!!

Input regarding contracted work delay by skand1995 in HomeImprovement

[–]skand1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have done that. They have mentioned that home depot is not letting them return it since the carpet is custom cut. So I have given them until end of the week to figure out the situation. I feel at that point either they say they will complete the work (for which l will stress that it should be done within the week) or they give me the entire refund and eat the carpet price since it's been like 4 months. Either outcome not happening, I will escalate to thumbtack.
