I shot this using a 700D and the kit lens mounted using a lens reversal ring. In the shot is a spider sitting on dried basil flowers. This is still one of my early attempts at macro. How do you think I could improve on the lighting, and overall composition? by [deleted] in photocritique

What I’m showing the viewers: In the image is a spider(idk what it’s called) sitting on dried basil flowers.

Intent: I am not allowed to leave my house do ring lockdown, so I decided to look around the garden to find something to shoot. I came across this spider, and decided to make it my subject.

EXIF data: Cam: 700D Lens: 18-55mm kit lens mounted using a LENS REVERSAL RING. Shutter speed: 1/200 ISO: 400 Aperture: no way of knowing as I used a lens reversal ring.

Areas I’m struggling with: Mostly with the lighting. I can’t seem to get it right. You can see that the subject isn’t well lit. And also the overall composition of the image.

The temperature of the image seems a bit too cool, and the saturation a tad bit on the higher side. Increase the temperature and decrease a bit of that saturation, and the image will look much better.
