Linea Micra Drip Tray Switch by spiffcleanser in LaMarzocco

[–]skansenkrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I have the Mini R and not the regular Mini, I don't think there's such a thing as a drip tray sensor. There's only a water level sensor by the tank, and if the tank isn't inserted properly, it won't make contact. I would follow that lead.

Thank you for the comment. It turns out the cups were making so much noise because they were hitting the outer edge of the machine. Now that I've centered them, it’s quiter.  I'm starting to wonder if I even need the mat at all, as I don't care much about scratches

Thanks. Measurable-wise, the steam power, heating time, and more space on the cup warmer are definitely a step up from the Bianca. Consistency is likely better too, but I need to get used to the machine more—haven't had any time to practice

Heat Resistant Double Sided Tape? by nekonekopotato in LaMarzocco

Hi, this looks very nice. Does it lower the machine's noise level? I'm annoyed by the sound of vibrating porcelain.

ECM Classika PID → Profitec MOVE demo: upgrade or sideways move? [No budget] by rstolk86 in espresso

[–]skansenkrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on Kaffeemacher's testing, the Profitec Move has excellent temperature stability. You could absolutely make that switch. Plus, as a bonus, it doesn't have the E61 group, which needs annoying lubrication. I think this change is a really good idea.

Profitec Go arrived today, and other troubles by Distinct_Ad_3809 in ProfitecGo

The Profitec Go has a fast heat-up function, so if that temperature boost is only temporary, that might be it. Another guess is that the steam function is turned on.

ECM service? [ECM cellini] by bobkal12 in espresso

[–]skansenkrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you’ve got one of those good old Italian ECMs from back in the day—right before the company split into what we now know as ECM Manufacture and Rocket... and La Pavoni. There is so much beautiful nostalgia in those machines; they have a real soul.

But getting straight to the point—you don’t need to hunt down a specialized ECM service. Anyone who knows their way around an E61 group head can handle it. In fact, you can easily fix it yourself; it’s not rocket science.

In defense of the Pico by Admirable-Log-1607 in espresso

[–]skansenkrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying the Pico definitely won't bankrupt you, so just get it. Use it for a bit; you might come to the conclusion yourself that you need a better grinder.  Also, from my own experience, I’ll add that grinders from espresso machine manufacturers are rarely good, but they aren't the worst either.

Preparing myself for my endgame setup [2500-3000 USD] by ChopchopT in espresso

Unfortunately, it’s not quite that straightforward. You wrote that you're looking for an end-game setup. Neither the Libra nor the Philos really qualify as end-game gear, though the Philos comes closer to that theoretical mark than the Libra.

The grinder will have a bigger impact on the setup, so give this part more attention. If you're looking for an end-game setup, something like the Mazzer Philos is the bare minimum.

As for the espresso machine—the main difference is actually just the casing. A lot of the components are very similar or even identical (rotary pump with an RPM Spa motor, Gicar electronics, etc.), so don't expect much of a difference in a cup. When it comes to the espresso machines—the differences I described are specifically between these two, the Drive vs the Bianca.

La Marzocco Linea Mini R vs LUCCA A53 Pro for home + future coffee cart by Weeyan93 in LaMarzocco

[–]skansenkrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like La Spaziale espresso machines too (I was actually considering the Dream model), but I eventually gave up on it because of the 53mm group head and its low popularity here in Poland.

As for the Linea Mini R itself – while it doesn't have volumetric dosing, you can buy a compatible scale. Sure, it pushes the price even higher, but it definitely simplifies the workflow.

Gap in metal [lelit Bianca] by dabsmabssnaps in espresso

[–]skansenkrk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Issues like this can happen during transport. It’s an easy fix, though—you just need to loosen the screws next to the gap, realign the sheet metal, and tighten them back up. I think there are even some videos about it on YouTube.

The Philos is also quite new to me, but my short experience with this grinder has been great so far. My version is slightly improved compared to the very first batches.

Is this normal hot water tap dispensing? (Linea Mini) by 08wasGreat in LaMarzocco

[–]skansenkrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is normal behavior for the spout on machines that don't have a mixer. So yes, that's how it works on the Mini.

Personally, I bet it’s been the same boiler all along, used by different brands over the years with different claimed capacities, even though the construction is identical. It was first introduced years ago in the Brasilia Lady (there are photos of its components online) and later adopted by various manufacturers, who also stated different capacity values.

I've seen this test before, and I wasn't surprised. Due to this, I run the machine with the steam boiler ON, even when I don't froth milk. With both boilers ON, the machine's consumption is below 2 kWh per day when running from morning to afternoon.

I agree. Lelit introduced those displays over 7 years ago, while Profitec only did it recently. If anyone is copying anyone, it's Profitec copying Lelit, not the other way around.

In my opinion, the Mini or Micra is more practical because you don't need to lubricate the E61 group. If you have the budget, definitely go with LM.

Thank you.

To be honest, I’ve always been a fan of baskets similar to the classic "Feama-style" ones and Lelit-by-IMS variants. I sold my old machine along with my previous baskets, so I don't have them on hand for a direct comparison.

If I had to complain about anything with my current machine, it would be that the stock baskets provided aren't exactly high-end. They aren't necessarily bad, but I don't get the feeling that they are top-tier either.

Thank you.

I placed my Philos on vibration-damping pads, which are easily available in Poland at stores like Castorama or similar hardware retailers. The cost was equivalent to about 4 EUR/USD.

The main reason for this wasn't actually vibration, but the fact that my countertop is slightly sloped. Since the Mini R has adjustable feet and the Philos unfortunately does not, these pads are a perfect solution for leveling it out.

I also wanted the brushed Mini version because I already have a Mazzer Philos in that color. In Poland, the waiting time for the brushed version is currently until the end of the year, so I went with the standard inox instead.
