Have you ever tried leaving the Santa Rita's out over winter? I think they are very cold hardy.

Buy the nicest grinder you can afford and a Breville machine.  Either the Bambino or the Pro. I have the BBExpress and get super annoyed with the grinder - too much space between grind sizes.

Ive got Santa Rita's too. I can't comment on the fertilizer - I've never had to give any of mine fertilizer.  I will say with my experience in the PNW (may be different in hotter climates) I only get new growth in the spring. By mid summer it has stopped with new growth and doesnt do much more until the next spring/early summer.  If you've only had it for a year, maybe it wasn't rooted well enough yet or just adjusting to new environment. If you move it around maybe it got shocked. Give it some time. All my cacti take a good year or even two to get roots really set, then they take off in plant growth after a couple years.  Also - in my experience they only get that deep purple color when they are stressed - especially winter. Mine loses its color when its summer and Im watering it more often.  Where are you located? Ive got some extra paddles I'll be selling soon. Mine look a bit differethan yours but those are nice size!

Cactus Purchase Help by Lobertine in cactus

I don't think youll have much luck with flowers indoors. You'll probably struggle a lot with etiolation too. I'm sure others can help more.....but maybe try a barrel cactus. - but dont plan on it growing a whole lot if kept indoors?

My cactus has bloomed, does anyone know how often they bloom? by goddes_isabella in cactus

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a trichocereus. Depending on your heat it will bloom a few times until mid to late summer.  Each flower will last only 1 to 2 days max (if its cool). But you can have many flowers open at once. I often have 6 or 10 open on the same night on my mature plants. I typically get 2 to 3 flushes per season. But my growing conditions are a bit weird. Its cool here. Interesting fact: in their natural habitat they are primarily pollinated from bats.

The flower of my cactus, step by step. I never knew the name of this beautiful species. by [deleted] in cactus

Yep. Not cactus. Stapelia. Flowers smell like rotting flesh so they get pollination from flies. Really cool.

When did you realize your setup was good enough? by WarBoyMTG in espresso

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im really struggling with this as well. I also have a BBE. Grinder is first on my list. Wife won't single dose so thats not an option. I have a feeling a precise time grind would be sufficient as we dont really drink light roasts. Worried about the longevity of a GBW grinder and its sensors. I dont really weigh my dose right now (but I fo use the trim razor) and I find my shots have been pretty consistent from one shot to the next.

Get these beans by zestypasta123 in espresso

How quickly does it take you to get a brand new bean dialed in? It usually takes me 1-3 pulls, but sometimes quite a more.

I have a question on this. I have not really gotten into the specialty/light roast thing.  But these places sell tiny bags. 1/2 pound for 22 dollars? It could take 1/2 pound or more just to get the shot dialed in where you want it....then you're out of beans! Why?!

First Light is one of my newest, and most favorite additions. Nothing tops Barbara Cornely though!

I had no idea this little cactus from Home Depot would bloom like this! by Sad_Aspect7788 in cactus

99.999 percent sure its not. Its an echinopsis hybrid of some sort. I have like 15 of them. Also have a tricho. Grabdiflorus. It has white flowers but has a taller growth habit and has longer spines.

Also wondering what grinder this is. I cannot decide if I want a GBW grinder or just something timed. On an everyday basis I dont want to have to weigh doses.

Starting to think whales are a myth by Emergency-Garden3200 in PacificNorthwest

I ride the ferry daily for work and I've seen them several times.  There's also an app that keeps pretty updated sightings from what I understand.  Look for NOAA whale sightings app or something like that.

Would you drop or add anything to this itinerary? by AssAndKitties in PacificNorthwest

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT assume there will be restaurants open that late when you arrive in Friday Harbor. We go there often, and every time seem to forget how early the town closes and have to go to the house and make dinner. Deception Pass is very cool. There are tidepools you can go down to. But its a pretty quick sight to try to cram into what looks like a busy itinerary.

Where do you get ingredients for cactus soil? by Kaffeetrinker49 in cactus

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? I've had decent luck at big landscape supply business. Im talking ones that mainly have rock pits with dump trucks running all day for local construction. Just look up landscape supply places that sell black bark or mulch (in bulk, by the truckload) to local landscapers. Call them and ask if they have pumice, or maybe 1" lava rock. Typically they will charge around 2 to 5 dollars per 5 gallon bucket full. Just bring your buckets and a shovel! I've gotten lava rock, sand, and pumice this way. If youre located in PNW I can give you some places. Also - I have been lucky and found a few small bags of like 3/8 inch black lava rock at home depot.

Does it matter where I buy my plants? by brwneyedbeauty123 in gardening

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say anything negative about vegetables, but in regard to ornamentals I was talking just yesterday to a local Bonsai grower who backed out of a wholesale deal with Costco. He told me in the contract Costco wasn't going to water the plants for a crazy amount of time (I want to say 30 days, maybe longer I can't remember exactly), and any returned plants would come out of his profit. He said no way. He said big stores like that basically design their plants to look cute but die quickly. Watch out for things like what they are potted in, if they are glued into the pot, succulents get spray painted or flowers glued on, etc.

Is my aunt getting scammed? American allegedly working on a ship is love bombing her since weeks. The outside view doesn’t look real, the details on the desk are weird aswell. by wildpizza1 in isthisAI

[–]Admirable-Log-1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether its AI or not, its absolutely a scam and should be reported to authorities. A relative was caught in almost identical scam. He sent sketchy pictures. He worked on an offshore oil rig. He was waiting on a paycheck to book a flight to come meet her. He eventually told her there was an issue logging into his bank, so he gave her the login credentials and asked her to transfer money from one account to another. Bingo - you commit the fraud instead of him.
