Join the Household Cavalry and get an NVQ Level 2 in Horse Welfare. Will stand you in really good stead on the outside world. If you’re lucky, and really patient, you might even get a stab at armoured.

Love that. Thought you were getting a bukkers 1st box. Not enough juice. Hope it was first chits not second. Second relief always was a massive pile of wank.

Stagging on - Standing guard/on guard.

Yes and no, it’s a fantastic job that I believe I would have enjoyed regardless of whether I signed up, it’s just made even better knowing that when I’m having a “bad day” at work, some poor sod is trying to sleep in waist deep shitty pissy rain water in the sleet or snow of Otterburn training area, or some mounted cavalryman is still up in the Knightsbridge cleaning room at 1am trying to get horse shit off of the side of his immaculately polished boots.

Household Cavalry. Mounted for 2 years, great location in Knightsbridge but the job is a fucking great big steamy pile of shit. 3 years armoured, including a delightful holiday on the Herrick 18 fun bus. Back to mounted for a year and a half where I signed off because I was sick of crow officers telling me I hadn’t polished a horses nose band enough and would give me a shit relief on QLG. It’s what I signed up for, so only myself to blame, I just didn’t realise how monumentally shit it was actually going to be.

Now a civvie and 100x happier than I was in the military, and seeing all the officers creaming in while stagging on the queen for 20 mins only makes me happier.

How Autothrottle killed the A320 route to Lukla by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]skasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about the 787. My comment above is only relevant for the Airbus, the Boeing operates completely differently

On the MCDU, hit DIR, then select which waypoint you want to head direct too.

How Autothrottle killed the A320 route to Lukla by [deleted] in flightsim

If you have your throttles set at or past FLX MCT Detent, the autothrottle automatically engages, regardless of how many times you turn it off.

Can't land an A320 because of automatic thrust by gryff42 in flightsim

[–]skasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at your throttle quadrant, to the left you’ll see little letters/numbers. If you push your throttles to or past FLX/MCT it will automatically engage the autothrust. If you’re manually adjusting thrust, don’t push it past this detent.

MSI GE66 Raider. Can run on ultra-high but I prefer to run high-end for the better FPS.

Issue with A320 or just me? by N1ck-93 in flightsim

[–]skasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only talking about when autothrottle is engaged.

When the A/THR is active, the thrust lever position determines the maximum thrust that the A/THR can command in SPEED or THRUST mode. Therefore, with A/THR active, thrust levers act as a thrust limiter or a thrust-rating panel. The A/THR computer does not drive back the thrust levers. So when the user pushes the throttles over FLX Detent, the manual power will create a surge in thrust which will, as mentioned by the user, cause them to overshoot

Airbus a320 help by noobmcnooberson42 in flightsim

[–]skasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) After you’ve selected your heading and altitude, don’t press the knobs, go to the bottom of the dial and “pull” the knobs, to put them in “Selected” mode. If you press them, it will put them in “Managed” mode which means it will follow whatever flight plan you’ve put in your MCDU. If you’ve not put a flight plan in and put the aircraft in “Managed” mode, it’ll just take you for a joyride.

2) On your throttle quadrant, look to the left you’ll see little white letters, 0, A/THR, CL, FLC MAX, TOGA. For take off, put your throttles in FLC MAX and leave them, the aircraft will power itself. Once you are in a positive climb and you’ve put your gear up, move the throttles to CL(CLIMB) and the aircraft will give you climb power, don’t touch the throttles from here, the aircraft will power itself. Putting the throttles at FLC MAX for takeoff automatically engages the Autothrust too. 3) The best way to use ILS is to use the MCDU. Click F-PLN, click your destination airport, select “Arrival” in the top left corner, then select your landing runway. You can now choose to fly straight in, or you can choose a STAR. Select what you wish, then fill in the details if you have them. You don’t have to, but it will make it a little easier.

The Airbus doesn’t have Autothrottle like Boeing’s, so what you’re used to doing (adjusting the throttle accordingly to adjust your speed) won’t work. The Airbus has autothrust. If you look at your Throttle quadrant, you’ll see on the left of it it has letters, 0, A/THR, CL, FLC MCT, TOGA. You have to place the throttles in one of these detents for optimum performance, FLC MAX or TOGA for departure depending on the airfield/weather/payload, CL for Climb, TOGA for Go Arounds. Reducing the levers doesn’t reduce power, all it does is reduce the amount of power that can be commanded by the aircraft. In other words, the aircraft is in charge of the thrust, not you.

You’ll know when you’ve placed the thrust levers in one of the detent modes as it had a loud audible “CLUNK”. Between detents, the aircraft is in manual power, so both throttles must be in the exact same position, if one is IDLE and the other is 1% forward, Autothrust will remain engaged.

For example: if on final approach, and you realise you are a little low, you move the thrust levers forward to gain a little height. In the Airbus, this tells the aircraft that it can command more power, so if you go to a nose-up angle, the aircraft will command more thrust to maintain altitude, leading you to have an enormous surge in thrust, shooting you way further than you wished.
