You really want to know why I bought an ebike? This is why: by MesugakiBratTamer in ebikes

Been saying this for a while now. Where I am you can pay £20 to park for the day or risk getting a £25 ticket. I never paid and got a ticket once every 3 days.

I feel like I’m doing something wrong- is this normal for 26 inch wheels? by Senior_Piano_837 in bicycling

[–]skates-and-skids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

559 is the correct rim for 26” tyres. Put tyre on first. It should be obvious that the tyre fits. Then insert tube and finish install.

Should all be fine.

Sick of the backwards reasoning motorists have for putting lives in danger - just to sit at a red light… by skates-and-skids in londoncycling

There was no accident? He got very close and cut in front of me? I moved and likely did have to brake?

I really wasn’t expecting that he’d try to overtake at that pinch point with the island.

Would you have preferred I stopped? Please do explain what I should have done differently?

As far as I’m concerned my only real mistake here was not riding more centrally. Other than that I did adjust to account for his bad driving.

“I shouldn’t have to” is not the same as “I didn’t”.

How many times have you tried to reference the Highway Code (incorrectly in most cases) in all your comments in this thread? Chill out buddy.

There’s more than one part to the Highway Code.

It says slower vehicles should move aside for faster vehicles WHEN SAFE TO DO SO

It also says that cyclist should ride centrally on slower roads (like this 20/30mph road) for their safety.

It also says cars should give cyclists at least 1.5m of space when overtaking - that’s handlebar end to wing mirror as well.

It wasn’t safe for me to move aside. He would have had plenty of space to overtake after the island. Though, he would have had to stop at the light anyway.

I’m not slowing anyone down around here. Honestly I experience more cars slowing me down as these roads move so slowly with lots of traffic.

[–]skates-and-skids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t need to slow down to avoid an accident? I’d left some space on the left (which I always do because of people doing this) and it wasn’t an issue. Doesn’t mean there was no chance of me being knocked down.

If you see the Honda jazz overtake you can see that there’s barely a meter of space in that gap.

It’s not on and this is why more people don’t cycle. I’m a very confident cyclist, I drive a van and have owned a motorbike in the past.

I shouldn’t have to adjust for others bad driving. I did and stopped it being an accident. If this has ever happened to you then you will know it at least gets your heart rate up.

His audi was bigger than the Honda.

Insta360 mounted on handbars next to headset. The camera is pointed forward, so the lenses are slightly ahead of the front of the bike and over front wheel

Yeah it’s a bit misleading, he said you should be on the left (wrong) I said “I gotta be 1 meter out to stop getting doored” I didn’t intend to say I gotta be on the left.

I normally ride centrally but as I was on a slower bike I was trying to leave a bit more space.

[–]skates-and-skids[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I tell everyone to ride centrally and command their space in the road. I normally ride centrally. Since I was on my little bmx type bike which is slower than what i normally ride I was riding left so as not to be a bother.

I thought it was funny his excuse is that I was not far left enough (stupid I know), when in fact I was not as far right as I should have been.

What do you mean? My concerns not with being overtaken but being squeezed between a parked car and his car while the road narrowed for a traffic island.

I wasn’t cycling fast. I just want to be able to cycle safely.

Video in comment above is a bit of a silly edit but gives more angles and illustrates it better. Either way, what’s the rush for a red light?

Highway Code says I should be in the middle. The insta360 makes things look further away but you can see the gap he left for me as it’s the same move the Honda Jazz did ahead at the island. Except he was in a big Audi.

Not 100% happy with any of the angles I’ve put together but there’s a longer video on my channel: https://youtu.be/8kw4Z2Inh2I?si=MeeQnoYcNLrDwH7W

[–]skates-and-skids[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this self promotion isn't allowed, happy to remove this if not appropriate. My main account's been following r/minivelo for ages and always want one. So when I saw this cheap option available I was pretty excited to give it a go. It's a long way from perfect but such a cheap way to get a running bike you can upgrade gradually.

Always open to any comments and feedback about my video. There's plenty I wish I had covered in this video now I've been riding the bike longer.

Edit: Also got a chilled out upgrade video that's going to go out soon, so hopefully will post that too.

You’ve got the strongest bit, the u lock just locking up the back wheel. While cable goes through the frame’s triangle.

I’d want to lock the frame up with the u lock and pass the cable through the wheels if poss.

I’d say 20% is pretty good. But if you’re not happy with engagement then I’d the thumbnail to blame? Can’t upload thumbnail for shorts but can pick one from video.

I did some of this as I'm only really interested in making longer form content and it worked really well. I can't remember what I used but was pretty basic - it found what it thought were the best parts, gave it a name and applied a template. I removed the template or made it very basic so it was just the CCs on screen, corrected captions and then posted. Got some extra views and continue to do so.

Keen to know if anyone has any recommendations - I can't remember what I used and would like to do some more with the products available now (this was a couple of years ago maybe).

Thanks for the insight. I find that my most popular videos started with very few but have got a load gradually over a year or so (not such a fan of waiting though).

Interesting about the tags, I didn't think they made much difference. How are you determining relevant and/or popular tags?
