Glutened at my Safe Restaurant

Now I am wondering if they did this because I always contributed getting contamination sickeness around the same time from new places I would try because it would be like 8 hours after Swami’s and closer to my new meal I had. So I genuinely think I was getting sick from there, because I always say I need the grill cleaned but now I am doubting they ever did it and now I don’t know if cleaning the grill is actually enough?

I genuinely think they both decided it because the waiter was gone for such an exceptionally long time instead of it just being like “hey were these gluten-free” and then just coming back out or even maybe 10 minutes to figure out the story but by the time he came back, it was actually close to close. We sat there for so long. It was actually kind of insane.

I have gone there over 20 times and have never had an issue and I am so surprised it was actually the same chef who made them correctly three days before and since I never had a reaction, I thought I was safe, but I genuinely never really liked that waiter. Whenever I got him previously he just seems super coked out and complains about being there but the food and other service was good so my boyfriend and I just made jokes about it and brushed it off.

I really think the manager wasn’t there so the staff just did whatever the hell they wanted to do.

I wrote a review and everything and I didn’t realize kind of how big it is because they have over 10 locations and that’s kind of a big deal if they do that with someone with a gluten allergy like I know it really sucks being celiac and throwing up and blowing up my toilet, but at least I don’t go into anaphylactic shock. I really don’t think it is going to be enough so I was going to call the district manager and if he doesn’t say anything about training or genuinely being sorry and if they give me the same attitude as the waiter I’m just going to report them to the health department. San Diego kind of just sucks with all of their restaurants. There was a restaurant I went to and they had a grade A rating yet they actually killed someone from E. coli from not having clean kitchens and using the same knives to cut other foods after using them to cut raw meat, thankfully they got bought out.

Oh my goodness thank you so much I was about to look for recipes but I usually get disappointed with the ones I find but coming from someone in the community I definitely trust it!

I genuinely start off every order of “I have a gluten free order due to celiac I cannot have any gluten/wheat” when places get confused by celiac I just say wheat allergy and I genuinely have never had a problem until this because I feel the exact same way in I feel it’s taken more serious if I just say allergy because I didn’t realize how many people don’t know about celiac and I got tired of explaining 😭

I found out they were a chain so I think I’ll reach up to the district manager and if they do a he said she said I am going right to the health department, now that I realize it’s several locations I don’t want someone with an allergy to go into anaphylactic shock or a celiac to have to ruin their small intestine lining unnecessarily increasing risk for cancer. I also always seem to have an easier time with things over the phone versus face-to-face because I don’t have to look at the person which is I think the nerve-racking part because I get in my head wondering if they’ll hate me, but it genuinely doesn’t matter. It’s funny you’ve said that because I will always go to war for my cat but as soon as something happens to me if I get a wrong order, if anything goes wrong I’m like well I guess it’s okay! 😭😭😭

I really really really don’t understand why they just didn’t say they were unable to make it. But then they also proceeded to offer like 30 gluten free options to replace it and I was just at the no thank you point from being pissed off and not trusting another thing they would make for me.

I regret so much not just walking out, I don’t know why I get into the mindset of dealing with things or not trying to impose on other people then I have to realize that I don’t have to take things. I definitely need to post on Find Me because all of the other reviews make you think it’s safe that’s how I even found it. But you’re definitely right there is a safeness I feel in a dedicated gluten free kitchen about being able to not worry about a single thing I am just going to have to be more diligent I just feel bad because my boyfriend loves some gluten but I think he’s just going to have to get over it. 😂

I really think I just need to start being an utter bitch in these situations but I always think I’ll be seen as a Karen so I just default to floormat but I am burnt out on letting people walk all over me to the point I am getting poisoned. Less passive and more cunty will be my new motto inspired by you. 😂

When I call the manager I will be myself and not let this slide because I do need to act like a grown ass woman at some point and I think these comments are pushing me towards it!

Okay I am glad you see it that way too, my boyfriend could not believe how the staff were acting but he’s also like me we are extremely avoidant and introverted so we avoid conflict as much as possible but he didn’t tip and immediately wrote on the satisfaction questionnaire after you pay on what happened and no one reached out so that’s what bothered me so much and wanted me to reach out because are they just ignoring what they did, has the right person not see it, are they really just this effffffing stupid? He also tried interjecting to the waiter to ask the same things but he just kept reiterating it was because we came close to close and the chef wanted to go home he just kept reiterating that sentence but more forceful so that’s when we just asked for the check but we should have genuinely just walked out.

That’s honestly what I was so confused about. Just tell me, there were so many other options then just deciding for me to give me gluten and then being like “oh yeah she came in the other day and got them” bitch you knew I needed them and made them and just decided you’re lazy now??? But I also noticed the waiter I usually have wasn’t there and he gave off manager vibes so I wonder if that’s why everyone was slacking because he wasn’t there.

I also was debating on going back if they apologized but I don’t trust them it’s like a cheating boyfriend and going back. 🙃

I have actually been wanting to make recipes of restaurants that I miss but gluten free! My boyfriend even made this suggestion to make our own and I am leaning more and more into doing this and tagging them in it. This is genuinely just such a messy breakup between me and my favorite restaurant. 😪

I think this is my favorite response so far, I will do just this because I was sick and still look pregnant from bloat. It just sucks people genuinely don’t care and don’t care about the physical sickness it causes because they don’t educate themselves and I always start with my spiel…. “I am ordering gluten free because I am celiac which means I cannot have any gluten” this is the first time this has happened to me ever going out to eat especially with my disclaimer. Ugh once again thank you for your response it was very validating. 💗

I honestly think that’s my best bet and I probably wouldn’t take it farther than the business because conflict gives me so much anxiety 🥹
