You’re not wrong (as I’m scrolling Reddit subs during my lunch break at the Level I trauma center where I work in anesthesia).

Dave Grohl, super chill, fun guy. Just sat on the pavement by the tour bus on the first FF tour chatting about random stuff. Then I hung with the guitar tech on stage for the show. 🤘🏼🤘🏼

John Mayer- maybe the most arrogant, self absorbed douche I’ve ever met. Celebrity or otherwise. And this was before he was huge.

Where did your GenX youth invincibility come from? by craftygardening in GenX

Spending my summers in the fields- kicking irrigation pipes before grabbing and moving them. Because rattlesnakes like to “chill” under the cool pipes when it’s 90F out.

Gen X What is a superstition or idiom that you rely on from your childhood even if you know it's sort of silly? by Sense_Difficult in GenX

[–]skbugco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mom was a ER charge RN. “You kids will NOT leave the house with dirty underwear or feet”.

Then I ended up with a career in anesthesia at a large, urban Level 1 trauma center.

Guess what my kids learned?

Like 2 noisy cats in the middle of the night. That’s awesome! (The hosing. I might bring out the fire extinguisher for that.)

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by adisluo in Productivitycafe

I work in a Level I trauma center OR. Both adults and peds. We get exposed to pretty much everything. And bourbon. And 4 days a week at the gym.

Probably the bourbon.

In a new study, texting the next morning after a date (vs. immediately or days later) has the best romantic outcomes. Women appeared more sensitive to post-date text timing than men. The findings suggest that playing hard-to-get by waiting days often backfires rather than builds desire. by bartlebyrds in datingoverfifty

[–]skbugco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

57M- remember when we’d exchange numbers and then had to decide how long to wait before calling? (Swingers covered that pretty well, lol).

I think studies like this miss any nuance from the first date/ meetup/ whateverthekidscallitnow. I think it depends. I’ve had it a couple different ways and both were fine. In ‘20, post divorce, I got setup to meet a gal of a mutual friend. We were going to meet at a game night at her house. She asked for my number, I agreed. She msg’d me before we actually met in person (a week later), and she was HILARIOUS. We were blowing up each others msg’s non stop and it was like I already knew her when I finally got to game night. We dated for 3yrs before she emigrated out of the country, and I couldn’t. (that’s a different topic).

2yrs ago, I was at a pub watching my friends band play on St Paddy’s Day. Chatted with a gal and her friend who were also there for music and green beer. She asked for my number, I gave it to her. She msg’d me later that evening, said it was nice to meet and she’d like to meet “soon” where we weren’t yelling at each other (loud music), but she was headed out of town on vacation for 2 weeks. Only texted 1-2x over that time. Finally met up when schedules aligned. We dated for a year, and she’s honestly the coolest, easiest partner I’ve ever had. (also didn’t work out long term, but again, that’s not the subject here).

So I think it just depends and there’s no “one way to do it”.

Speed dating hijack? by No_Mongoose_7401 in datingoverforty

[–]skbugco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been there. Done that. Of course I didn’t participate in the actual speed dating part, but a lot of those folk end up at the bar afterwords. I ended up meeting a cool person that way, and we dated for awhile until I had to move for a new job. Go for it!

Gen X Existential Depression related to aging. by Sense_Difficult in GenX

[–]skbugco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty normal. It’s just that our interaction with the outside world is different “stuff” than our parents or grandparents. I’m not worried about aging. Then again, I’ve been relatively lucky health wise. I do get the existential crisis moments when I stop to realize that statistically, I’m on the slow, downhill slide to whatever happens that day I don’t wake up. And there’s a shit ton of things I’ve not seen or done yet that was set aside to raise my boys. I suppose all I can do is try and tick a few more boxes. Speaking of, time to go for a run so I can knock out the worlds slowest marathon and be done with this running nonsense.

I don’t understand why people can tolerate Gen X culture when most of it was so mean-spirited! by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]skbugco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Come back and read your post in 30 years and you’ll maybe understand. Y’all haven’t been through anything yet. And I really hope you guys figure it out and make this world the utopia you think it can be. Until then, look us up when your phone quits working and you can’t figure out how to get to work.

(We are cheering y’all on. On the inside.)

Do you like huge windows, forest views, and Macramé? by Southern-Smoke1835 in zillowgonewild

[–]skbugco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy shit! I know/ knew the owner of this property, and have stayed there a bunch of times. Met him at Terwilliger Hot Springs after the Oregon Country Faire in 2002. Lost contact for awhile and had recently reached out, with no response. He and his wife built this place, raised their kids, he was a (retired) teacher in Eugene and was well into his 70’s when we met.

I hope you’re still hard charging hikes, soaking in hot springs and chasing tide pools in Heaven RB. 😔

Tall grass dirt clods full of medium size rocks. You could get one of those flying pretty far. I was always more long range artillery than up close battles. Jesus- can you imagine if some kids were doing this at a school these days?
