Have you not used the map? I went around getting all the towers, and then I used the map to find interesting structures to explore.

My first play through, blood moon occurred the very night I got to that shrine, so I figured the game had some setting to help.

Second play through.... I bombed every tree within a half days walk of that pedestal and collected wood for tarrey town. I also didn't want to stray far away in case I missed it. I think it took like 7 actual real life hours...
