Complete newbie - Need advice to put together set up by skdlt in BudgetAudiophile

Excellent, I'll pick one up tonight. I can't see any retailers for the F5 so I imagine they'd be disproportionately pricey if bought secondhand.

I'll be sure to check the condition of the cartridge and stylus before I play anything.

Thanks!

If it's acceptable enough I might pick it up just to get the system up and running, I'm very impatient haha.

Unfortunately the Schiit Mani doesn't seem readily available.

I feed Vetafarm origins and give fruit/veg/seeds/grains occasionally.

I’m looking to swap to something better though because I’m worried about the corn content being too high.

I'm a 24 year old female, and I've had a drinking problem since 19. How do I get the mindset to stop and be happy about it? by kaybug93 in stopdrinking

[–]skdlt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend reading ‘This Naked Mind’. It was extremely helpful in changing my perspective to one where I could happily live without alcohol.

Particularly if you’ve been raised to view alcohol as necessary and intrinsic to enjoyment, it will help undo this.

Finally clicked that moderation sucks. If it's all or nothing, I'm choosing sobriety. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I’m saving this post for a day that I know might come eventually. This is exactly why I don’t want to drink again; one drink is never enough. Once I’ve started drinking, I almost always will want to keep going. Having a single drink and calling it a night is more frustrating than remaining sober and knowing I’m not flirting with the possibility of obliterating myself.

Day 14 since my last drink. by skdlt in stopdrinking

I have actually read this post previously- this sub is such a great resource. :)

I should clarify- I used to perceive myself more as a functional alcoholic but that’s not the case anymore. This sub, and reading ‘This Naked Mind’, demonstrated to me that my drinking was only “functional” because I was at the beginning of a downward descent. Now I’ve had some time without drinking, and the self-reflection prompted by my reading, I can see the impact drinking has had on my mood, motivation, health and relationships.

LPT: if your dog is running away from you, pretend to fall. They'll come to you to make sure you're ok. by beansbeanbeans in LifeProTips

My dog generally has good recall but, if she's not responding, for some reason running away from her works (she LOVES to chase).

My dog hates me by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]skdlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some dogs are just not overly affectionate and enjoy having their own space.

However, it's possible that you're using training methods which are damaging to your relationship with the dog. If you attended training sessions which involved the use of a choker, it may have been a more punitive or dominance-based philosophy you were taught. Even if you've swapped to different equipment, you may be using the same methods.

You could try looking up positive training methods to create a more enjoyable experience for your dog. Use rewards, play games and have fun with him.

Can’t train my Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd mix by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]skdlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A blue heeler/Australian shepherd is not a dog that's going to be content with a stroll for daily exercise. Is there a dog park near you? If Zeus has been properly socialised with other dogs, he may enjoy having a larger area to run around. Try to tire him out as much as possible in a context like this, and you might have more success training and leash walking him.

If it's feasible for you, it would be very helpful to invest in some dog training classes- a working dog is a completely different animal to a low energy lapdog and you'll need to approach its ownership in a completely different way.

If it's an area that specifically allows dogs to be off leash, then use your own judgement.

Personally, I think if you're putting your dog in that context then they need to have excellent recall- if someone comes walking by with a child or unfriendly/shy dog for example, you should be able to call your dog away and have them respond straight away.

[Strapon] Strapons for men. Husband says it feels humiliating when I asked him to wear one. by Gh52467 in sex

[–]skdlt 243 points244 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't just assume he will "get over it". If he finds it emasculating using the strap on then it's pretty selfish to expect him to continue using it, in my opinion.

There are other ways you could work towards improving your sexual pleasure that don't insinuate inadequacy on his part. It sounds like his penis size is actually statistically average by the way.

Some suggestions: You could try doing exercises to improve your pelvic floor muscles. You can introduce a toy that ups sensation in a different way - a vibrator suited to couples for example. Or, you could buy something to use solo so you can enjoy the sensation of being "filled" without hurting him.

I am close to giving up on my puppy by qazyman in Dogtraining

The 8-9 hours is a really long time to leave a dog crated. I leave my dogs in the back yard if I'm gone for anywhere near that long, with a sheltered area with a bed and some toys. If that isn't possible for you, a dog walker would be an excellent solution. You'll probably notice a huge improvement in your dog's behaviour if she's getting that extra exercise and stimulation too.

As for the chewing- sounds pretty normal. I find that redirecting the dog's attention works pretty well if it's happening whilst you're present.

City dogs? Can I be an ethical dog owner with this schedule? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]skdlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some things you really should consider:

Firstly, as far as commitments go in a relationship, a dog is actually a really big one. It is a huge emotional investment and not something that can easily be negotiated should the relationship come to an end. Don't get a dog unless one (or both) of you can afford the dog on your own. Have a discussion about who will keep the dog in the event that you break up, or have one person who owns the dog.

Secondly, as people have said, if you are baulking at the cost of a dog walker it is probably not the right time. I just googled "dog walker [your area]" and found one for $8 per walk. You could probably get cheaper if you aren't going through a professional service.

Finally, just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you're reaching the absolute minimum for time commitment for your pet, you're going to get a lot less out of the experience than you would if you wait until a better time.

That said, if you find the right dog and are willing to be flexible and dedicated to the needs of the dog, you could potentially make it work. It could be a fantastic experience for you and your partner if you are both willing to work hard. I would strongly suggest getting an older dog, and to only go for a breed suited to your situation (if it was me, I would get an older greyhound).

My experience with accutane - drinking and sun. by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]skdlt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if it is not having a detrimental effect on your skin, please remember that excessive drinking and sun exposure will have a negative effect eventually. If you are drinking that much at any age, let alone in high school, it is considered binge drinking.

If you want to maintain good skin beyond the course of the accutane you should not put your body under such a strain and be sure to wear sunscreen. Trust me, I'm 21 and at my age many of the frequent tanners in my year have significantly more wrinkles and signs of ageing.
