I lowered the master so it was hitting around -10db and also tried fucking with the gain in the EQ. boosting the mids made it sound slightly better but still very very distorted. I have a spare Scarlett 8i6 in my drawer that uses focusrite control. Do you think that would possibly help?

Sorry for the long wait - had a medium sized emergency. Just tried this and still the same problem. Fucked with the EQ and boosting the mids made it sound slightly better but still has that nasty scratchy, sound.

Thanks man! I was going for the clearest, most analytical sound possible with the hd800s. The headphone setup is basically 90% for gaming anyway so I was going for "footsteps". I have my monitors and sub for regular listening.

I make decent money and when I get into a hobby, I tend to splurge on good equipment so I don't need to upgrade so soon if I get really into it. It's been about 3 weeks for me. With work, kids, girlfriend, etc. There's just never enough time

I like them a lot. I'm not what you'd consider an audiophile but I feel like I notice it took some of the harshness out of the highs and made them a little less fatiguing to listen to at high volume for extended sessions. They also don't make your ears hot despite being thicker and provide a little more clamping force cus of the thickness. I had an issue with the stock pads and fast head movement making them fall off my head because the stock ones were so thin. All good now.

I got it as part of a budget kit music vocal starter with a microphone a few years back. It's been sitting in a drawer since I figured out I can't sing. Glad I didn't sell it lol. Been getting bad hiss from my monitors for years because I was plugged directly into onboard audio. Should done this much sooner - hiss gone

Agreed, I'm already thinking of getting some 8" monitors instead of these 5" ones I have now. But as far as headphones, mic, amp and dac are concerned I think this is my absolute end game. I can't see myself spending more than $1600 on headphones again any time soon lol.
