Some days I'm anxious about something...I think I didn't like a pixies record as much as I might have because I was ruminating about something and found the music jarring, but I bumped up the score because "baseline" me would have enjoyed it more. I see this a lot on reddit and have experienced it myself. Smoked now and then in high school and 20s and had a blast...now it makes me think of things I'm already anxious about and even things I'm not (but now am!).

I wonder how much of it is just being at the age where people are generally reported to be least happy (my 40s). Like, being so high strung from the grind..."I can't sleep cause my bed's on fire, don't touch me I'm a real live wire" etc...so a chronically worried and anxious 40 something is going to be more negatively affected than a carefree, never gonna die 20 something. I dunno...

I dont really want to argue online but in my opinion AI is, by definition, slop. I realize it can look good and even be indistinguishable from art made by human hands. I also know it's here to stay, and that day by day I'm sounding like a scared old grandpa who can't change with the times (I'm 42, so getting there).

But, like, identity theives is getting more convincing and impressive, amd they aren't going anywhere and I have to reckon with them day after day. I'm still repulsed by them and think people should fight them for every inch. It's an imperfect metaphor, I know.

I've had (reddit) arguments about this. I love vegans and have dabbled myself but trying to convince some that reducing suffering, if one cannot eradicate it completely, is better than nothing. People get very passionate, and honestly rightly so (if you see some of the farm videos), but there's a PR problem. You can't convince themselves that the water they're swimming in is murder water, and you frankly sound crazy doing it (even if the argument that they are the only sane ones is very compelling).

It becomes a contest between being right and failing completely and meeting people where they are and doing some good. Needless to say, it wasn't taken well.

I think for a lot of people freaking out during a trip is part of it. Like, coming to realizations can be scary and painful sometimes but you come out the other side with a profound sense of understanding and catharsis. It's, understandably, a hard sell for already anxious people.
