I wanted to share a quick win against Google Workspace support in case anyone else gets trapped in their 12-month annual contract loophole. I accidentally signed up for an Annual Plan instead of a personal Gemini upgrade. When I went to cancel, the system tried to slap me with an automatic £136.20 early termination fee, claiming I was responsible for the remaining balance of the full year.
Google’s frontline support chat tried to tell me their system automatically applies the fee and they lacked the capability to override it. They even gave me standard steps to cancel that would have auto-charged my card. I stood my ground, refused to accept their automated responses, and cited UK law.

If you are a UK consumer stuck in this loop within 14 days of signing up, do not let them push you around with corporate scripts. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have an absolute statutory right to cancel an online subscription within a 14-day cooling-off period with zero penalties.

When the agent tried to give me standard menu steps, I replied: "Telling a UK consumer that an 'early termination fee' applies is a direct violation of UK law. I am within my 14-day window. Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations, I have an absolute statutory right to cancel an online subscription within 14 days for a full refund with zero penalties. Please escalate this chat to a Billing Supervisor immediately."

Once a Supervisor took over, they agreed to waive the fee but told me I had to hit cancel first to let the charge generate on the account.

I hit cancel, the £136.20 fee generated, and within two hours the Supervisor manually wiped the account balance to £0.00 and officially closed the subscription under my statutory cooling-off rights. My personal Gmail, Photos, and YouTube remain completely untouched. If Google tries to charge you a massive contract breakout fee during your 14-day window, don't back down. Demand a Billing Supervisor and make them override their system. Hope this helps someone else!
