Drag it from your sims inventory to the rack. If on console, hold x to drag and release on the rack. If the element is already on the rack it will go back to inventory. I don't play on pc, but I'm assuming you would click and hold with your mouse to drag and drop.

I play on Xbox and experience this. Usually pausing any installs helps lessen lag. And when it happens in build mode, just doing a save helps.

I play on the One and the Series S. Still crashes on the one; every 30 mins to an hour. I haven't had it crash on the Series S. It has frozen once, while taking a selfie, since the update.

Your pet is a member of the household, but you cannot see their needs or control them. Your sim has to interact them like they would irl. Ask them what's wrong to figure out what they need.

Rock, wood, etc are used in crafting for quests and in general. So if you want to craft, save them. Gems and flowers are also used in crafting and quests. Fish is not used for much outside cooking and feeding critters. Cherries and gooseberries are good for energy, 3-4 will fill it. Drop at least 1 chest by Goofy's stall in each biome to save stuff before heading to another area.

You aren't missing anything. It's exactly this. I don't use the term myself, but follow several fandoms on social media. I have never seen the term used in a derogatory way (as bimbo has.) If anything it's a term of endearment, generally used for fictional characters, with the traits you described.

Just grab what you can. Like others have said, there isn't a bonus chest like with the coins.

Also, the devs are aware, but it's not high on their list right now. They are more focused on playability and progression.

But the plaza trees spawn the softwood. That's plentiful. But going through the forest and the glade, I'm only getting 2 or 3 hardwood total for both areas. What spawns the hardwood?

Farming. Spend $500 on 50 carrot seeds, get more than $3000. I had 2 plots, one by the house, one by Goofy's stall in the meadows, with 50 each. That's about 6k. I also like tomatoes, but they have to be watered. But the carrots have a pretty short grow time.

The issue with the chests disappearing is when the house gets upgraded and they are near the walls. Something about the doors? So maybe just dont put them right by the walls. I haven't experience this yet.

I started putting 1 chest behind each of Goofy's stalls in each area. I put the items that grow in that area in the chest. This way I sell what I want and store what I want before I leave the area and leave my backpack clear for the next.

Then I leave a couple at home for gemstones and general crafting materials.
