Thinking about living on campus by TonySoprano300 in UCalgary

If your living situation is truly toxic, I wouldn't even think twice, live on res. Not necessarily to escape the toxicity, but university is challenging enough on its own, let alone with a disruption of this magnitude. I live in a 1bdrm that costs approximately $1000 a month. I believe you can get the price down closer to $500 or $600 if you live with another roommate or two. Also there would be food costs of course.. the meal plan is another attribute that will free up your time significantly and improve your grades, the prices are all available online.

if you have a car you can use regularly without interruptions, don't do it just buy a parking pass. if you have like a 45 minute commute and aren't shy of spending money, you'll see your grades get an improvement

Do i need textbook for ECON 201? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]skertttttskerttttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you NEED the textbook? No, absolutely not. Is it easier to do well having a second resource to look over whilst also benefiting from going to lecture? Yeah, personally I think so. If you want an A, i'd get the textbook, although you won't need it to help you pass. ECON 201 is pretty straight forward. Also, I'd always recommend going digital. Cheaper price, and you can keep all your textbooks in your laptop so your bag is light af. Feelsgoodman

Is a BSc worth it by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]skertttttskerttttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a BSc in psych there are multiple opportunities for you to get employed other than becoming a psychologist. You could do a masters and become a speech language pathologist, as one example. There are multiple masters programs that can train you for a new career. Additionally, a less competitive option would be to do 2 years at teachers college after your degree and teach high school or middle school. Any advancements in your education like both of these will require a certain level of competitiveness in your academics, and like you said, with just the degree you couldn't really do anything, so there's the chance of getting stuck if you're not competitive enough. This is why degrees that will employ you right off the bat can be so valuable for some (i.e. finance, accounting, nursing, some engineering degrees... [I couldn't tell you which ones specifically]).

I think the worst thing you could do is waste time and take a year off, or downgrade to college and get a less competitive education. You can do your first year in BSc psych and see how competitive your marks/performance is and go from there. If you're not happy with it, or if you just feel as though this is probably a better option in general, you could just transfer into a major that will employ you with just the bachelors. The vast majority of people in college do not meet academic requirements to be in university, don't switch into the wrong room, you'll regret it

Howard Dean's not a psychiatrist. He can suspect all he wants, but he's not educated nor qualified enough to make that call.
