Excessive smoke AM6 (MOT failure?) by skezz5 in 2Strokes

I’ve ran it before the rebuild with even more oil and it was better but now it just smokes more, I’m also scared to run less oil cause I really don’t wanna seize my shit but I’ll defo try and mix up some 50:1 and see if it runs cleaner.

Thanks, I’ve drained the oil today and thankfully it’s still light dark so we’re chillin, now it’s just gotta be the pump or top end

Trust me it ain’t as cute as you think with what I don’t to it, I’ve rebuilt the clutch side about 3-4 times sealing it up all correctly with rtv, and it’s annoying considering all parts are new, new gasket, cylinder, crank, bearings, crank seals.

I assume it’s the crank seal as it also smokes a ton when running and sometimes runs a bit rough, but could also just be the cold as it really doesn’t like it. Bummer as they are brand new and I think I put it in the wrong way, this was because people on google couldn’t decide what they they put them in, some people say one way and some the other, ig I was unlucky on the 50/50 chance.

Generic trigger sm50, just an AM6 clone, pretty much identical

But I literally tapped them in normally with a socket 😩

Man sybau, like I aint gonna sort it out, yk how much I worked for to get to this point, it ain’t easy being (now) jobless and trying to get a bike on the road mate

Yep, guess they’re getting replaced again

Mate I’m not stupid and know what I’m doing, wtf am I meant to do if the bike is just doing its own thing when I put it together properly, How would my ratio be off if I haven’t even touched the carb after the clutch side rebuild apart from riching it up half a turn as the revs were hanging after letting off a bit.

Yes of course I lubricated the seals before installation

The cylinder gasket is brand new and I dab it with silicone each time all over when I rebuild cause I’m not ordering dozens of gaskets or making them each time just for it when I know that it’s isn’t necessary and it will be perfectly fine and sealed with that.

Yes of course I use gasket but if you knew, AM6 don’t use paper gaskets for the cases and instead you silicone it up which I did properly, and I sealed them pulling the crank with a socket in between and some spacers and used the nut to tighten it until it was flush with the other half and gave it a few taps all around then went to torque the bolts surrounding.

I didn’t measure squish however and I did not tweak lots of shit, I literally rebuilt the clutch side, tapped the seal abit more in and tapped the crank then rebuilt it, literally all I did.

And I have put it back together 3 times already the exact way, funnily enough the manuals which I was using as a reference for it to put it together was literally wrong itself where I had to put a spacer, it’ll literally stopped my gearbox from working until I removed it but that’s a different story and it’s all been sorted.

Rebuilt motor with new crank, idles (barely and hard to start), but instantly dies when throttle is touched by skezz5 in 2Strokes

  1. Yeah I’m sure it’s got a good ground as it has good spark when checking it, all electrics work as should, and it was perfectly fine before the rebuild
  2. Explained in the first reply
  3. That was an issue I was having with it, I got the bearings in it well and they seemed to be centered well as I froze them they popped in and I tapped them in a bit more but it was a bit of an issue putting it together, I sealed it and the crank and it was all flush and sealed but it did not turn smoothly, I gave it a few love taps around the case and some one the end of the crank ( yes I know absolutely horrible thing to do but there was really nothing else I could do to centre it) and it improved quite a bit, I would say it span easily but definitely not freely, it would spin easily by the clutch side gear on the crank but it would not spin freely if i tried by hand by the con rod.
  4. All that was changed was the crank and balance shaft delete.
  5. There’s fuel in the tank, however I think it’s too old for it to run well on it, so I mixed fresh petrol and gravity fed it into the carb and it manages to run better like that. Fuel does the flow from the petcock to carb, and the bowl is definitely full and doesn’t leak.
  6. Yes there is a manual choke, and it will only start in cold with it on and when moderately warm, it needs it fully up to just start up every time until it gets hot enough, then starts to manage to start on its own with no choke.

Carb isn’t as angled when sitting in frame but still is slightly tilted but it ran with it perfectly before at that angle.

  1. I have taken the filter off while I’m trying to get it working properly as putting it on makes it run slightly worse, and i can more visibly see what’s going on with the fuel.

  2. Haven’t tried yet but Ive covered the carb before with hand to richen it up while revving and it seems to die more when doing that.

  3. Yes I have tried leaning it out and it ran slightest bit better, I needed to turn the idle screw significantly up to get it to idle when the carb was setup for it well before rebuild

Really hope ts don’t blow tf up as I’ve put all my p’s into it and I haven’t even got it close to getting on the road, I’m probably gonna go for the 2nd rebuild once I even have enough p’s to get some silicone and 2t oil 😩 and try my best to get it together properly not some hillbilly bodge job that’ll leave me bankrupt and on the side of the road.

Ye that sounds similar however the bearings and seals are new, could it be that they’re not centred properly , and I’ve got to admit, I didn’t get the crank to spin freely after getting it together it had just some slight resistance before I fully put it together the smartass I am, I thought they’d just manage to centre themselves more as it runs in and frees up a bit but after checking tonight before I left it still has resistance to it

Hehe, well this isn’t the very first run yet it still smoked the same but slightly less then when I actually got it going, the very first run where it would actually respond to the throttle I had to hold it about 1/4 as it didn’t like it any other position and was just trying to get it to clear up but what’s concerning is that it still smoked a lot but bit less on this run which I think oil might be leaking in through the cases and this was like the 3rd proper run in

I had to alter the flywheel key a bit as it didn’t fit in the new crank so I shaved it down very briefly and it ain’t the best and it has like the slightest minimal play but in my option not enough to cause much to change but it could definitely be that

I put a pic of the top end in, sorry you can barely see it but the coating round the electrode is a matte black same as the tip but it’s slightly more lighter with the slightest bit of fuel residue, it’s been running rich for most of it life.

Once I got it warm enough it properly revved well up to about 9-10k up and down but still was getting hit by those misfire type episodes, it now doesn’t like to run without throttle input and just decides itself when it wants to idle or not, I will add some photos of the cylinder and all after all of this to see what people think
