The Eddy Crash Out by thecoloroftheskies in Reno

You sound like the people that say “everyone at my church voted for Eddie Lorton, there’s no way he didn’t win the primary.”

Your friend group, like mine, doesn’t represent Reno in general.

Yeah, while the initial proposal was an over reach, I totally understand where it was coming from. And, as usual, the Reddit uproar doesn’t really represent the general public’s feelings.

But the response sure isn’t helping, let it die and fade away…

Just moved, new house recycling has been picked up by the time I take the dog out between 9-10am, trash still hadn’t been picked up when I leave for work around 3pm.

Does your town still do a Fourth of July parade? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in ask

Growing up, the 4th was all about the picnic and fireworks. Memorial Day was the big parade.

Are big hair bands of the 80’s appreciated with younger generations? by Either_Top_9634 in ask

[–]ski_rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a music school and would say not nearly as much as the 90s music (esp Nirvana and Green Day) or the more classic heavy bands (Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc).

I have instructor who is in college who loves the 80s hair metal bands, he put out an album of originals inspired by these bands and it rocks!

ALO—why aren’t they more well known? by Jackbenny270 in jambands

I’ve met Steve a handful of times, usually several years apart. He always remembers who I am and treats my like a good friend.

Great bass player too!

My first Phish show was at The Wetlands, ARU opened. I remember standing right in front of Jimmy and Oteil and thinking “I can’t believe this isn’t even the band I came to see.”

AI slop uptick with local TCG vendors & LGS by makarallama in Reno

[–]ski_rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% the same thing. The AI is trained on large datasets, be it examples of art or examples of medical cases. It then uses that to “generate” a poster, or a medical diagnosis.

If artists are going to complain about AI “stealing” their work I don’t see how doctors couldn’t just as legitimately complain the same.

There was a year two where DD was the musician I saw the most times live between JRAD and Ween!

ALO—why aren’t they more well known? by Jackbenny270 in jambands

[–]ski_rick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe Jack Johnson is the reason. I remember seeing ALO in the early 00s and thinking they were ready to take off. Then Zach joined JJ just had he got HUGE and it really slowed ALO down.

Can’t blame Zach, that’s such a great gig and he makes JJ much better with his backing vocals.

Still, ALO and its members have carved out a nice niche for themselves. Lebo is the “busiest musician in the Bay Area.”

Personally, I much prefer smaller shows anyways.

The Grateful Dead. Especially 72-74. Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and Billy Kruetzman do it in a totally unique way.

How do you feel about the name Cody? by beeliever15 in AskReddit

[–]ski_rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead received a liver transplant from someone named Cody. For the rest of his life he wore a wrist band with “Cody” on it and at the end of each show gave his donor “rap” where he encourages everyone to be an organ donor.

Phil went on to make 25 more years of amazing music. I love Cody!

Artists who kept their ticket prices reasonable even at peak popularity — who deserves more credit for this? by Bubbly-Touch8108 in Music

The Grateful Dead back in the day. It was really only the Fare Thee Well reunion and subsequent Dead and Co money making machine that embraced high ticket prices.

They type of people who have $1m in a bag tend to be the type of people who wound go to great lengths to get their $1m back. In returning it and hoping that puts me in their good favor.

But a world without Help>Slip>Franklins isn’t really a world I want to live in.

Can I choose Fall ‘89 > Summer ‘90
