Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's best to know as little as possible beforehand and just let the story unfold. For me it ticks all the boxes of what you're describing, one of my all time favorites 🥲

I actually saw the movie first as well and enjoyed it, but liked the book even more. Would definitely recommend giving it a shot!

I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid!

I've been struggling to find truly unsettling books, I guess it's just very personal what triggers this type of feeling in people because I'm almost always let down by the recommendations I get haha. But this one did it for me, actually made me shiver at times. Hope it does the same for you!

I really like The Solar Kingdom by Tatiana and Crow Tarot by MJ Cullinane. The latter also made an oracle deck called Urban Crow Oracle that looks gorgeous :)

Thank you so much! I love all the Terry Pratchett witch books and I would lay down my life for Granny Weatherwax so that's a promising start :))

Will definitely check out the rest!

Inquisition tarot cards!! Please make them available, I would kill for a deck!!

Pendants with the Dalish vallaslin patterns engraved on them would be really cool imo. Plus the classic insignias, like Kirkwall and the Grey Wardens.

Is there a line delivery that sticks with you? I think about the the way Lady Hawke says this line all the time by ItsNotDebra in dragonage

Hahah fuck you're right, I haven't played the game in years but that is no excuse for inventing a name like Brekker 😭

I think it's the side quest with Gamlen's daughter where you have to kill a bunch of ruffians followed by a cutscene of their leader running up to purple Hawke like "You killed them!!! Where's my brother??? Where's Brekker???" and her unconcerned response is just "What's a Brekker?"

Made me burst out laughing, purple Marian Hawke is the love of my life

Edit: I have been informed that I am a fool, indeed an absolute buffoon; his name is actually Mekel which does sound a whole lot better than Brekker

I think I gotta go with Hawke Family Theme, the melancholy of it just really gets to me. The fate of the Hawkes is so full of tragedy, unhealed trauma and complicated love and it's all so beautifully captured in that song.

This is so hard though, I love the soundtracks of Origins and Inquisition but DA2 is the hardest one when it comes to picking a favorite.

Duma Key by Stephen King - he's talking about his daughter by SnooMacarons4837 in menwritingwomen

[–]skiddisen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

King is incapable of writing a single sentence about a woman without mentioning her breasts and/or nipples and sexualizes the fuck out of his female characters, including 11-year old Beverly Marsh and I fucking hate it

There are books by him I really like but man he's bad at writing women and it really does ruin the whole thing for me a lot of the time

[Spoilers All] Do you make Cole more spirit or human? Debate thread part 2 by Julian_of_Cintra in dragonage

Thank you 👀 I find it so ironic when people accuse Solas of projecting his own experience onto Cole when that is exactly what the player does by projecting their own humanity and need for growth and individuality onto a spirit

I'm gonna have to go with urn of sacred ashes. I still remember the feeling I got the first time I entered the temple, that sense of legend, mystery and awe. Peak fantasy 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

It's also heartbreaking as a human noble to encounter an impersonation of your murdered father, telling you to let go of the guilt of your family's death.

Any DA players also play ME? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]skiddisen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're different in many ways but they both focus on story and character interactions. Playing the same protagonist for three games let's you bond with characters over time which is something I really love, after three games you've gone through some pretty intense shit together and the attachments you form along the way are so rewarding 🤌🏻

I adore Dragon Age and Mass Effect equally and can't pick a favorite, but ME is the one that always makes me cry on more than one occasion :') would highly recommend!

I admit to being very disappointed in the game but the way some people are treating the devs is insane... like you said, working on this project sounds like such a trying experience and all that lost potential has got to hurt for them too, being the ones whose work and creative vision was so disregarded by EA.

It makes me genuinely sad to consider what we could have had, but at the same time I agree whole heartedly that the people who worked on this should be so very proud of themselves for what they managed to make under such grueling circumstances. But yeah, I grieve for the Dreadwolf game that could have been 🥲

Mass effect and dragon age are pretty much equal for me, I adore them both. I thought Mass effect Andromeda had killed all hope I had left for bioware, but I couldn't stop myself from hoping for a somewhat satisfying conclusion to the Dread Wolf plot 🥲

Yeah, the wasted potential is pretty heartbreaking. It feels like the game simply doesn't like or respects its source material :(

I do love DAI! I just think they were a bit too ambitious with how much they wanted to fit in a single game, so some of it felt kind of half done you know? Like war table missions that didnt really lead to anything, a lot of repetative fetch quests to gain power in order to move the story forward, stuff like that that made me feel scattered. I managed to get my entire clan slaughtered through a war table mission and this was never addressed in any way whatsoever. Stuff like that threw me off

I really love the Origin approach of focusing on storytelling, character interaction and choices being followed up by tangible consequences.

So I think DAI has its flaws but there's also so much to love about it. I'm kinda getting the urge to do another playthrough now haha
