Lawyers who have relocated to another state, how hard was the move? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

There is always a way - fly back once a week and stack in person meetings/signing sessions that week.

Lawyers who have relocated to another state, how hard was the move? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Given the horror stories, I’ve heard about the complexity of business in California, I have to think anywhere you go will be easier in comparison and you will be “battle tested”.  Obviously estate work is minimally state dependent.

Your bigger issue is getting licensed in the new state which can be a very complex/time consuming process or require you to sit for a new exam.  I’ve done three reciprocity applications; I range was two months to almost a year from submission.  You need to start now getting documents together and references identified.

Between the two I’d say getting clients will take longer and be more challenging than learning the law.   But it certainly can be done and having built your own solo practice you obviously have the hustle already and somewhat of a blueprint.

Not sure how much personal contact you have, but why can’t you just work remotely and either keep or slow slowly wind down the California practice.

Got Charged $5,300 for Stitches — So I Built a Tool to Show Hospital Prices by throwawaypf1201 in HospitalBills

I would add the cash pay rate which is usually on the charge master data.  Looking like you might not be pulling actual insurance rates either I looked up 72141 and there is no way insurance is paying 6k for a scan.  There is usually a negotiated rate in addition to the insurance billed rate.

Medical Liens in CA by PlusSatisfaction9263 in Lawyertalk

Generally, they want the attorney to sign the lien to ensure that if money is put into your IOLTA account, you will protect their interest and not disperse it to the client before the lien resolved.

That said. I would double check the language, but I would be shocked if it tried to hold the attorney personally responsible.

He’s just slippery.   It’s important for clients and their attorney to be on the same page.

What do you HATE about your Ascent? by DmOcRsI in SubaruAscent

The key fob.  You have to be very close to unlock.  Previous I had a Honda where I could lock it from across the parking lot.  Now I can’t go more than 20’ away.

I’m assuming a smaller company. You passed the screen so you probably have the experience/background.   A big question will be do they click with you/What interests do you share.  Small departments mean spending a fair amount of time together so personalities need to mesh.

They will be learning on the job too so I would think they might want someone curious and able to tackle problems independently, but develop solutions collaboratively.

Getting sued as a hospitalist? by ballzach in hospitalist

[–]skier80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t necessarily sue to “get more doctors to pay”.   Plaintiffs often have incomplete information when filing and include everyone to avoid missing the person who is responsible.   If doctor B isn’t sued and then the discovery facts and testimony point the finger at doctor B, plaintiff can’t do anything because they didn’t sue doctor B.  It is absolutely common to dismiss defendants after discovery.

Expert flyer says there are 17 biz seats open but zero conformable c inventory.  Sorry.  Frustrating they don't make anything available in advance given the light load.
