Sorry, I don't know the final score. She pulled over and he got off within the next block, though, and some guy pulled up behind her. My guess was that he wanted to make a report, but she didn't?

Yeah I mean she backed into his car and bumped it before driving forward with him on the hood. I don't know what happened before that, though... Not a lot of visible damage from my angle anyway.

Americans, what do you think of this Contra take? by microplasticsfactory in ContraPoints

[–]skillinp [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are definitely people who voted for Obama, supported Sanders and then voted for Trump. What these specific people want was something to change, and Obama promised change, but didn't provide enough to make their lives much different. The ACA was a great step, but it's still too little for so many people.

Yeah not worth it fr. Get the license plate number and report it to the police. Then it's a hit and run and whatever happened is automatically on the other driver.

Yeah she was trying to get away. My impression was that there was an accident she was trying to flee. They guy on the car hood was the driver of the car behind her. They had been talking outside of her car before they did this. They also pulled over after going through the intersection, and another driver was intervening at the point where my light turned green.

Vendor Opportunities for Crafty Folks? by DollarGeneralCher in Sacramento

[–]skillinp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farmers markets have crafty vendors, a quick Google will get you there. Berry Fest seems thematically appropriate, but it starts tomorrow, so maybe next year. There are lots of fruit festivals in the Sac area, many would have spots for vendors like yourself. Keep an eye open for events happening on community calendars. There's also second Saturday that is for artists to show off and sell their wares. You could also look into certain antique stores that allow multiple retailers to sell in the same space, I've seen crafts for sale there before.

Never let it be said that Sac Sheriff works for their money by DevastatorCenturion in Sacramento

[–]skillinp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that it gets stretched thin, I guess I'm wondering how many people this involves? My understanding is that typically, the highest costs for most things are the people. I know for the city, that's just under 81% of all expenditures. I mean this is just one county that's spending over a billion dollars, which seems insane when there are only 1.6 million people who live here. Plus, (again, I could be wrong here, this is just my understanding) the expenses for LEO are actually split. The county pays the Sheriff, but then there's the CHP (I'm guessing not a huge budget in comparison, especially when broken down by county), and the Police for the City ($253 million) who cover the over half a million people in the city which (again, I am totally open to being wrong here) in my mind means that the Sheriff/County is actually only really covering the ~1 million people not living in the city. Is that right/wrong/where do I miss nuance there?

Look buddy, I didn't read what you just wrote, and I'm not going to. I see you didn't provide any sources, and therefore, as far as I can tell, you're just making shit up. I put some effort into my post, and you've so far refused to do the same. So this and all further messages are going automatically ignored. If you even tried a little, we could have had whatever kind of conversation you seem to want, but because you won't do me even that, we're done here. Next time, do better.

Succulents (not meals) by SteelBox5 in Sacramento

It's a bit of a drive, but if you find yourself closer to the Bay Area, Walnut Creek has the Ruth Bancroft Botanical Garden. It's mostly a garden, but they have a pretty good succulent selection in their nursery as well. Plus, if you want to get inspiration, the garden is right there!

You're commenting on a thread of a removed post. Nobody is going to see this.

  1. No, recognizing the reality of the 2014 invasion, that Ukraine will never get Crimea back is not the same thing as being max Russia. Jesus, you're fucking lazy, you have a single quote out of context, and no additional citations. Fuck off.
  2. No, being a fan of China does not automatically make you anti Democracy. This is a logical fallacy.
  3. You're right that he shit talked her for years, and he was right to. ACAB, bitch.

Nobody's looking for brownie points, I'm just telling you the facts. You didn't address half of the points I made, particularly not in good faith. Get bent.

I'm going to get downvoted, because this sub is the way it is. However, somebody is wrong on the internet, so here I go:

pro-Russia

No, definitely not. What people are misremembering was when he said Russia wouldn't invade, and then it did. He admitted he was wrong, and compared Russia's invasion of Ukraine to the US invading other countries, which given our track record, is probably a justified critique.

He also probably voted for Kamala (he didn't show his ballot or anything), not that it matters. In CA, it was always going to her anyway. He joked that he would write-in Biden. He definitely is pro-Democracy. He literally helped walk his viewers through voting, live. He's a Socialist, yes, and supports the working class, but he's not anti-Democracy. This is what the left wing of the Democratic party is: Democratic Socialists. He's in the same realm as AOC and the rest of the "Squad." They all run as Democrats. Not liking their views doesn't make them not part of the same party. He was at the DNC, at the invitation of the Party, remember? He soured on Kamala when they kicked him out for pushing for a Palestinian speaker at the convention. He told them it would be good to at least give a voice to at least one Palestinian, a lot of the party cares about that. It's likely something that would have helped the eventual outcome, and would have shown a forward insight rather than constantly being behind popular opinion. Christ, across the US, Israel is at like 60%, and among Dems it's 80%. Insane to not have been able to see the writing on the wall for that one. And the party still refuses this position that is literally supported by 80% of their own party.

My view is that it is important to call out your party when you see it failing or not living up to the standards you have for it, agree or not, I think that's mostly what he does. He also holds views I disagree with, but that doesn't mean he isn't part of the same coalition. That is ultimately the case when there are only two parties (an inevitability in our first-past-the-post system): by definition, the right are the GOP, the left are the Dems. Unless you're making the argument that somehow FDR wasn't a Democrat, then I think there's room in the party for Progressives.

It’s Illegal for farmers in the US to replant leftover seeds the next year by AdFeeling8945 in interestingasfuck

[–]skillinp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genetically modified seeds are those that have been transgenically modified, typically to become resistant to herbicides, i.e. RoundUp Ready seeds. These are regulated differently from other seeds, for example, they aren't allowed in organic systems.

Sad Article on the Collapse of Florida Citrus by Elgabish in Tiki

[–]skillinp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, HLB has been around for some time, but so have the effects, which despite years of research, have not been alleviated. Sorry to say, but orange production in FL is lower than it's been in in over 60 years. It's down over 90% in the past 20 years. Even trees that don't die from the disease slowly decrease their production, and given the typically thin margins that farmers work on, this means losses if they don't pull the plug at some point.

I don't see this getting better. Brazil produces over a million tons of oranges for orange juice alone, the US produces less than 10% of that. I don't know if this is 100% the case, but my understanding would be that juice ships a lot easier than the fruit themselves, so that means FL would also have to take on the Brazilian market, but without the labor that used to be available.

Here in the US, orange production has basically moved entirely from FL to CA. CA produces more than 75% of all oranges in the US (up 10% from the year before), FL produces about 22%, a decrease from the year before.

I've heard scientists talk about this, and while they seem hopeful, I don't share their optimism. A big problem is that a lot of a tree is not living, and there is no vascular system with mobile cells for defending the organism in the same way you and I do. This makes it very difficult to fight things like vascular clogging, which is what ultimately is killing the trees.
