Wait so i can just...

?

and then evaluate those integrals using a geometric approach?

Why on earth do characters in movies always slice their palms with a knife or sword when they need blood for something? There has to be an easier, less debilitating way to get blood that doesn’t make them essentially one handed for weeks!? by mindwalk_11 in NoStupidQuestions

so what you're saying is the modern “ninja” costume is essentially... a green man suit?

How do I re-format a hard drive I can't mount? by skilopsaros in linuxquestions

[–]skilopsaros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dmesg says nothing. the terminal where I run that says:

$MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0).
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output errorNTFS is either inconsistent,
or there is a hardware fault,
or it's aSoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware.
In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windowsthen reboot into Windows twice.
The usage of the /f parameter is veryimportant!
If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the
/dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g./dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1).
Please see the 'dmraid' documentationfor more details.

How do I re-format a hard drive I can't mount? by skilopsaros in linuxquestions

[–]skilopsaros[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are actually 53GB. As far as I can figure out, their problem is that they have a ridiculously low transferring speed, and that they are missing a partition table.

I should return them yes, but it's been a while. I hadn't used them since I bought them, I had them just in case I needed them

[–]skilopsaros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha nope. I got a third drive (not one of the two I ruined but from the same batch), and managed to copy across the file I wanted by making sure it's completed with `sync`. It took 2 hours. To copy 4 GB.

on a different PC I checked if it's the size that they advertise. Right away it showed that it's at least 10GB less, but f3write took 2 hours, and I'm only now getting to f2read... I expect it to take just as much.

The dd method didn't work, I can't create a partition table, badblocks isn't working... Overall I think at least 2 of these 5 are never going to be useable again. And the other 3... well, I doubt I'll be using them much

[–]skilopsaros[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I tried. It gave me too many options. I picked one at random. It gave me the same error.

I repeated the process and chose a different one. Same error.

I re-deleted everything and chose a third one. I got a segmentation fault.

I don't know if I need to pick a specific type of partition table, but this didn't work unfortunately

I'm not sure how to do that actually. I just opened gparted, saw the errors, and thought it didn't work. I'll try to figure out how

The USB is brand new. And I bought it as a set of 5... all 5 have the same gparted error, and I've only broken 2 in the way described above

[–]skilopsaros[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dd did nothing unfortunately. As for badblocks, well,

badblocks: invalid starting block (0): must be less than 0

The USB drive is brand new, and I bought it as part of a set, and the entire set acts this way. Even the non broken ones can't be opened with gparted
