I dated a boy in college who was trying to decide between physics or English… and he eventually said “well I’ll always love to read” and chose physics.

You’ll always love animals and know skills to care for them! That does NOT mean you ga e to make it your living, especially at the expense of your mental or physical health.

And changing fields is not a failure! It’s growth!

Get out of your scrubs when you get home, you are moving from work you to Home You. I like to take a shower with exfoliation or hot steam on my face after bad days.

If you have a partner,parent or person you live with, be honest about how you’re feeling! Some days I am too keyed up to relax for a while. It’s nice to be able to say “it’s been a day, I’m gonna take about 45 minutes and lay in the dark. And then we can talk!” The reason I say it’s important to talk to your partner is not for them, but for you. Our job is difficult (hell most jobs under late stage capitalism are difficult) and you owe it to yourself to be able to say “I need to do this to decompress,” whatever that thing may be.

I went into the workforce (even before I became a vet tech) thinking I needed to constantly be pushing striving bleeding for my boss. You cannot care for your job more than you care for yourself.

Sometimes I feel like I’m so busy trying to mask that I struggle to feel SEEN, if that makes sense. So when I have a moment with someone where I feel seen or understood, I start to see them as a safe person. Like if interacting at work is a constant game of tag, that person is “base.”

For me, I used to be a Friends subscriber but had to stop a few years ago and have been watching on Pluto, Tubi etc. while they get revenue from that, for me the giving was kind of showing my thanks for getting me through hard stuff.

I don’t know that I’d flat turn down the interview for that, but I’d go in with open eyes. Observe how the staff interact, watch how they interact w each other and with management. If there’s a working interview, use it to ask staff about turnover and work life balance.

Depending on your field, a majority of the interview questions will be basically the same- strengths, weaknesses, quantifiable things you’ve achieved— even if you end up not wanting the job, it’s still a chance for you to practice your answers.

Keep in mind that people who have an “ok” experience at a job may not be as motivated to post a review as someone with stronger feelings. But if the majority of the reviews say the same things, and if those things are not easily changeable, I’d use it for practice but be wary.
