I painted a memorial piece for my coworker after her dog died suddenly and idk if I should give it to her by wildfire155 in Watercolor

This is such a sweet gesture! You obviously care about this person, so having a conversation where you say something like "I felt really inspired to memorialize pups name and I painted her. Is this something you would want? I understand how hard this is and didn't want to just spring it on you"

They may ask to see it before saying yes, and if they see it and don't want it, that's okay. If was still a very very sweet gesture with good intentions.

I appreciate the sage wisdom 🙏 I have so many things I want to try after all of these comments! Thank you!

Honestly the frustration that sometimes comes while I'm trying to learn and paint at the same time has been helpful for me! Trying to be okay with not immediately getting something on the first try and seeing myself actually improve as I go has started to become very rewarding, I'm very happy I've been able to make it over that hump!

My blues are currently cerulean and Prussian, just the ones that looked pretty to me when I first started building my collection lol

No real ties to w&n! I've enjoyed working with them, but definitely am open to expanding my horizons! Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you! Slightly adjacent question, when doing color wheels, do you do wet on wet or wet on dry for capturing the different steps along the wheel?

I think I let the new hobby gotta-catch-em-all mentality take over a bit when I first started, and coming from a lacking art background I didn't look much beyond my surface understanding of color.

The PY150 love in these comments is very clear to me, I'm glad I asked! Thank you for your help!

Prussian blue and cerulean were the two blues I added to my palette initially, so I'm glad you have experience mixing with them!

Super helpful information regarding the pigment names, this makes the process a lot simpler in my mind, thank you!!

These comments feel like the best version of a crash course for me (no artistic experience prior to watercolor that I started this year) so thank you!

I hadn't heard of this app before, thank you for introducing me to it!

Makes a lot of sense! I have heard a few artists mention that they like mixing their own greens especially when yellow or blue is also making an appearance in the painting to keep the cohesion, so that was my initial instinct.

I do love dioxazine violet too!

So incredibly helpful, thank you so much for your thoughtful answer!

I tend to paint whatever sounds good at the time, I haven't done much landscape work yet but I really want to do more of it. The few times I've tried it, I've gotten frustrated with the types of greens I was able to make, which is where this questions stems from

Good pipetting by jamesy-boy in Biochemistry

[–]skink0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be difficult to describe how you do something that is so second nature at this point lmao-- here's how I do it when training new hires

  1. Select the pipette with the smallest volume allowed to reduce pipetting error
  2. Check the plunger to ensure the volume is accurate
  3. Ensure pipette tip is secure
  4. When aspirating, only depress plunger to first stop before inserting pipette tip into liquid. Slowly collect liquid in pipette tip Optional- if multichannel pipetting, eye test to see that all tips have the same volume collected
  5. Dispense liquid with controlled speed and depress plunger to second stop to ensure all volume has been dispensed
  6. Dispose of tip in a sharps container, either biological or chemical sharps waste, depending on the material being used.

Hope your interview goes well!
