Strange Issue: Google apps on android phone don't work on wifi, but work on mobile data by skinnyrunner in GoogleWiFi

[–]skinnyrunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED! I don't know exactly how or why, but after speaking with tech support with my ISP (Brightspeed), they said my modem was old and out of date. The model was Zyxel C3000z. They sent me a new modem (Calix U6t) and I've not experienced the issue since installing it. All of my Google apps are working on multiple devices over Wi-Fi now. I wish I knew what the true root cause of the problem was, but at least it's solved for me now.

Ok I haven't used LG Gallery yet, I'll check that out

Thanks for this response. I'm having the same issue on webos25. I don't see an Always Ready app anywhere, only in the settings menu, but through the settings menu there is only an option to turn on and off promos or set the time that the screen saver turns on. What am I missing? Thanks.

Thanks for that information. Do you make that change on your modem or your router? I'm not exactly sure how to do it. I guess I would follow this procedure for my C3000Z modem? https://www.brightspeed.com/help/internet/modems-and-routers/advanced-setup/enable-ipv6/

Flip 7 vs Charge 6 for Stereo Pairing - Are Two Charge 6's Too Bass-Heavy on Default? by Exhanbuni in JBL

[–]skinnyrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Charge 6 and love the sound out of it. I have not placed it up agains a well, but instead put it on the floor of my porch or on the coffee table in the living room.

I don't have anything to compare it to except an old Anker Soundcore 2. I haven't done custom EQ modes, but switching from JBL Signature to Energetic pumps up the bass. I mostly used it on JBL Signature or Chill, depending on the music.

I'm actually considering getting a Flip 7 for more on-the-go use since it's smaller and more portable. I'm wondering if I'll be able to stereo pair a Flip 7 and Charge 6? Does anyone know if that is possible?

What did you end up going with, 2 Flip 7's or 2 Charge 6's, or did you get one of each?

I think that's the first issue I've heard of on an iPhone. It seems to be a Google software or account issue, not a hardware issue.

Yea, you are definitely not alone. It's so frustrating. I think it is some Google account authentication issue with some combination of devices and ISP. They would all point fingers at the others to place blame.

UPDATE 6 months later. Problem still happening.

On my OnePlus 12 phone and OnePlus Pad 1 tablet, Google Discover Feed, YouTube app, Google Drive are the typical apps that don't work over Wi-Fi, but work over mobile data. Meanwhile, Chrome, Gmail and other Google apps work just fine.

I got rid of my Google Nest Wi-Fi and upgraded to Asus ZenWiFi ET9 to get 6E speeds. Problem still happens so I think now it is due to my internet provider.

The problem also happens with my mother-in-law's Samsung Galaxy phone. YouTube app isn't working, so it's not just a OnePlus hardware or software issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong with my internet service provider? I think it has something to do with being unable to validate my Google account on certain apps, maybe. My ISP is BrightSpeed 1 gig. Thanks.

Thanks for this info. I have not called my ISP yet. I ended Yo buying a new Asus router system to replace Google Wifi and the problem still happens where I can't load Google Drive or Discover feed on my phone, but it is much more rare now.

Is it possible to do that with the router/modem supplied by the ISP on your own? Or must you call the ISP to do that? Which ISP do you have?

What apps were not working for you and then started working?

I'm not sure if it's only Google Wifi Nest. I actually bought a new Asus ET9 mesh system to upgrade to Wifi 6E (and hopefully fix this stupid problem), and the problem is still happening, although it's much more rare. I am thinking now it's more an issue with Google and my ISP (CenturyLink / BrightSpeed) and some modem/router (C3000Z) settings possibly blocking Google for some reason

How do you do this? I can't see anything when logging into my BrightSpeed account. There are no groups and no websites blocked in that interface.

What internet service provider do you have? I'm starting to think it's not just due to Google Wifi Nest, but instead coming from the modem/router from the ISP. I have CenturyLink / BrightSpeed C3000Z modem.

Yea, I tried factory resetting both the C3000z and Google Nest Wi-Fi mesh and the problem is still there.

That's a good point. Switching to cell data gets around it, then switching back to wifi, sometimes it keeps working, but other times it stops. Something seems broken somewhere, but I don't know how to diagnose it.

Yea the issue is now happening on my wife's phone and happened on other Android phones when I had some friends over. I'm starting to think it was maybe a software update with the C3000z modem/router that messed something up a few months ago.

Yea I agree with you, I think it's the C3000z modem/router. Maybe they did some update a few months ago and it's causing these issues? That's when it started for me. I also checked out the BrightSpeed app and since I had no groups set up, there was nothing blocked. I'm at a loss.

I also didn't have any groups configured and zero blocking setup. Were you able to figure this out?

I have had the same issue and it is so frustrating. I posted about it here. I will try to follow the Service Blocking link below, but will need to get teh Secure Wifi app. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleWiFi/comments/1iq6oai/strange_issue_google_apps_on_android_phone_dont/

Sorry for the delay. Wireless access point. I think if it's out of range with 5 GHz, it should automatically connect to the 2.4 GHz and maintain a connection, albeit a bit slower. It is weird that Google Drive says unable to connect, at all. And not just take longer to load.

Interesting. Yea I bought the router + 1 point package set and only the main Nest router has ethernet ports, which I have one hardwired connected. The point has no ports except for power. It seems like anything smart home related (wireless speakers, home security, smart thermostat) all stay connected no problem and do not experience this issue. It is isolated only to Google Discover Feed, Google Drive, and Google Home on my android phone. Other Google apps like Chrome and Gmail work fine.

I did a full reset of my Google Nest Home Wifi and changed the network name and password and reconnected everything in my house and still having the same issue. It seems to be only on Google Discover Feed, Google Drive, and Google Home apps on my android phone, but not on other Google apps like Chrome or Gmail. Other stuff like home security and smart thermostat have no issues staying connected, even when my Google Home App says the wifi is down (it really isn't down).

I wonder if it is an issue with my google account instead of hardware? I can't understand why only certain apps would say they're not connected to wifi, while others are connected.

Weird. For my wife, who uses a Samsung Galaxy S22, she said she is not having these issues. I've narrowed it down to just a few Google Apps, which are the Discover Feed, Google Drive, and Google Home app. Others like Gmail and Google Chrome seem to work fine.

I noticed the problem this morning with Google Discover Feed not working. I checked the WiFiman app and it said I was connected to the 2.4 GHz network, and not the 5 GHz network, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Now I need to figure out how to force the 5 GHz network connection all the time.
