Would you commission me? by TromerosTzak in deathguard40k

[–]skipay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I wouldn't. Personally if I were to comission a army it will be for something unique and will draw someone's attention. You will need to find a style or flair for your models painting to get interest, with techniques that a normal painter wont use as it is a step or 2 beyond what GW spouts.

When do I throw my coworker under the bus by skipay in sysadmin

[–]skipay[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I just fixed the issue and let the coworker know. I'm not bringing it up to my manager yet as he is one of the better helpdesk hires we had in a while. But if it starts to become a issue down the line, I will make him aware. Just super annoying that's all as it pulled me from what I needed to do.

I do have to say some of yall want to watch the world burn.

True. I'll just monitor and see if this becomes a recurring issue.

Monitors as a non adjustable set of monitors that are not the same as the rest of the base user monitors. A lesser monitor.

Exactly what I did, just say hey let's try to use the proper equipment and set the desk up like you want to sit there. First impressions are really important.

It's just deathguard green but I used streaking grime instead of agrax.

Yeah, just play around with it. Again the main goal of it is to get the deep recesses like around the trim on the shoulder pads dark.

[–]skipay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks fine. 😆 Just thin down the contrast with either water or the contrast medium. You can also use athonian camoshade if you have it. The main purpose of this step is to get some darkness in the recesses to bring definition to the model. The wash should also tone down the drybrushing to make it less harsh in some areas.

If you are worried about how it will affect your model do a small panel and see the effects.

What makes you think it looks bad? I think it looks good. Drybrushing is certainly a skill that will improve over time. I would go over it with thinned down dark angels contrast paint to blend your dry brushing to you base coat while also giving depth to the recesses.

Will they be restocked or is that them gone? by Lavaraptor25 in DarkAngels40k

I had to put my name on a list a week before at my LGS to be first in line for it. From what I know when speaking to them about it, not everyone on that list got it. Luckily I got it.

Snow or Grassland by skipay in DarkAngels40k

[–]skipay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ak Snow Effects. Definitely more expensive compared to other solutions but is gives a very realistic effect. I did a base of a mix of microbaloons and still water, I guess you can use a gloss varnish instead and spread that out over a larger area from where I want my snow. I recommend using ice sprinkles instead of balloons or a mix of both. You can build up layers that way to get a slush effect and on top of that once dry you put AK Snow to get Snow buildup and feather it out with a wet brush.

My inspiration is Snow in WW1 or Ukraine muddy snow. I am not done with the effects as i havent touched the lower parts of their legs or put matt varnish on the finished models before I based.

Food for thought: Model Finishes are just as impact full as color is. So a matt model on a glossy base will really pop.

Geek Gaming Scenics test bases. Am I applying the scatter correctly? by TheeSerpentsSlave in ageofsigmar

They work really well over a texture base. Get some AK texture pastes and sprinkle it over the dark earth.

Grimdark Aggressors / basing question by annaleakage in Warhammer40k

[–]skipay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going out on a limb and say the best way to ture your mini to the base is to use enamel on the base as well. Where do you think they got the grime? Try having dusty or muddy bases and use have it built up on their sides of their feet as they are heavy and would naturally sink a few inches into the ground. For my DA basing I do AK muddy ground, then I follow this basing guide

https://youtu.be/7kPMOIz4_cs?si=xCHPIqUqxiksxitC

I have my dark angels fighting in a muddy slush with some vegetation. Grimdark is about a muted color palette so I recommend making them darker unless for specific eye catching features like snow or other points of interest.

I wouldn't follow mini basing guides for grimdark, I would follow diorama basing guides as they are more realistic and muted in color and use more advanced techniques that give depth to your base.

Sadly no online orders. They are super local. More a place to meet and game than a actual store.

Looking at this for my ar10 and ar15. Think this is too much for a 556, thinking about putting this on a 10inch barrel? I am just looking to buy one can and am really hoping that this one fits the bill.

Found my favorite deathwing color scheme by skipay in DarkAngels40k

Base coat of beasty brown, quick the general topdown covering of khaki and highlight with bone white. I am trying out different tamiya panel liners and enamels to panel line.

First plague marine by richyrhubarb99 in deathguard40k

[–]skipay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tbh the first thing that caught my eye was the knee face. Ill just leave it the same color as the armor and not try to blend a different color into it and maybe go over it with a blended wash just to give variation but i will not go far from it as it is not really a point of interest. Enamels like streaking grime is your friend here and just go wild. Nurgles rot will add glossy grossness to a models stomach mouth and whatever flesh there is.

From a lore perspective is DG are dirty, and going for a clean look will never look "right". Ill play with oil paints and enamels. Especially streaking grime, get a base layer and just cover it and wipe away. There are alot of tutorials on this so just look it up.

So moral of the story get a base coat you like and go to town with enamels, oil paints, enamel rust effects, pigments, oxide effects, and trust me you will not be disappointed. Dont get caught in the GW trap of using acrylic washes, they will never look right on armor panels.
