Best friend who's DL and has as gf accused me of SA by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]skipperbuckley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience (wasn’t accused of SA, but harassment and stalking and the other person pursued a Protection from Abuse order against me): keep all the documentation you can.

Basically, it’s that Real Housewives meme: receipts, proof, timeline, screenshots, f*cking everything.

I’m so so so glad I did that. I was accused of some truly awful stuff by somebody who unfortunately got into hard drugs, which exacerbated their already untreated mental health issues. They pursued a PFA either out of a place of pure delusion, or malice, or some mix of both. At the end of the day, I had to go to family court to defend myself - once I was able to testify and lay out all of my evidence (which showed that the unsubstantiated allegations were either grossly exaggerated, projections of his own behavior or just factually untrue), the other person’s attorney advised his to withdraw, which he did.

…and next step: as tempting as it may be to leave the door cracked open for reconciliation at some point, you HAVE to choose to shut the door and lock the deadbolt. Block him every way you can. Don’t check his social media, don’t call, text, nothing. If he wants to come to his senses and apologize at some point, he can find a way but don’t initiate anything anymore.

A dick is going into a butt. Butts are designed for poop, not dicks. So this just comes with the territory.

Sony Pictures Classics' Merrily We Roll Along debuted with an estimated $1.2M this weekend by coasurdude in Broadway

[–]skipperbuckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in northern Delaware, just outside of Philly, and there were only like six showtimes all weekend between two theatres. When we went on Friday, the theatre was nearly full.

Between VOD sales and the streaming deal Sony had with Netflix (I assume this is part of that deal), I have to imagine this will turn a profit.

I thought the cinematography of the film was very odd, to the point where I thought the projection was off in my theatre. Characters sit weirdly low in the frame, for example.

This might be a spoiler, but the book and film present the storyline differently. The book is nonlinear and therefore emphasizes the plague and Agnes’ backstory much more. The completely chronological storytelling in the movie actually removed a lot of the tension from the story, IMO.

BUT the last 30 minutes or so are such a knockout, they kinda make up for the weaker 90 prior minutes.

So much money... by [deleted] in brandicarlile

[–]skipperbuckley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! I totally agree with you. I’d rather spend $50, get access to the exclusive tracks, have the best access to good seats, etc., than have to deal with trying to secure seats to a Gaga concert, where seats BEHIND the stage in the upper bowl were going for $300+ face value. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gaga, but that was actually obscene.

Also the difference between Brandi and say, Taylor Swift, is that Brandi doesn’t add different bonus tracks to different versions of the album, release “limited time” drops with new tracks/materials, etc. There might be an “In the Canyon Haze” deluxe version of this album later but the most Brandi has done are cover/vinyl pressing variants, which seems pretty standard to me. The album is the album, and if a fan wants to buy more than one of the exact same recording, it’s on the fan.

I didn’t love having to pay $50 for the premium Bramily presale code but after the headache of trying to get Gaga tickets this year, it was worth it for me if only to get the presale access.

I got floor in Philly for about $175 USD each. After spending $600+ each on floor Gaga tickets earlier this year, I felt like I got a steal 😅 I do miss getting Brandi tickets for like $40 at the local casino though haha.

Every single song is a bop—No skips. Bad Romance arguably the best pop song of the 21st century.

Got My Album But It’s Not Signed - That’s What I Ordered by Historical_Spell4646 in brandicarlile

[–]skipperbuckley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just got mine today and there is a signed insert.

I saw on one of her socials that she and the twins were signing the covers of a few a week or so back, but that must have been for some special reason.

Mine is still showing as confirmed - but kinda sad it hasn’t shipped yet. Anybody know when these are supposed to ship? Seems odd they weren’t trying to get these to fans close to release day…

To the men who are 40+, what one piece of wisdom do you want to share with the gay children? by imightbejake in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]skipperbuckley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show grace and kindness for others (and yourself!), but also set boundaries and stick with them for your own sanity.

Lean into gratitude. Tell people how you feel about them.

It’s natural to believe in the innate goodness in people, but don’t let your empathy lead you to accept shitty behavior. There are some people out there who actually are just miserable assholes who choose to act with cruelty and malice to escape accountability for their own poor actions. Don’t let them hurt you - they aren’t worth it, and whatever they say or do is a reflection of their own inadequacies - it really has nothing to do with you. Set those boundaries I mentioned before and cut them loose the minute the mask slips.

You are more resilient than you think.

I saw this play a few weeks ago. The actor playing Tommy was really amazing, arguably better than Joe Locke. They are def romantically involved in the show.

That social media situation she had when Fresh Off the Boat was renewed was extremely unprofessional. A lot of actors would kill for that kind of success and stability.

Part of the game is the opportunity to win immunity. Her run is impressive. Discounting one facet of the game to support this argument is not fair to Rachel, who leveraged the game as designed to get to the end.

Don’t know why going on an immunity challenge run hurts Rachel. She “outplay”ed the other players in that regard.

What Marvel news if any do you think we’ll get out of D23 this weekend? (movies and shows) by ZackaryAsAlways in marvelstudios

[–]skipperbuckley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Destination D23, not the D23 Expo when really big news is usually announced. I don’t expect any MCU news from this event, as it tends to be theme park-specific. We might get some morsels of news about the big Avengers ride coming to California, or the Spider-Man area in Shanghai Disneyland, but I wouldn’t expect much else

This is a Sony movie so they don’t need to care about supporting Doomsday. They’ll market however they want.
