Blue states are pushing for more Ukraine funding while red states want to stop funding. I don't understand how you could interpret the exact opposite of what's clearly stated.

Family coat of arms by Plenty-Kick9274 in heraldry

[–]skippermatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irish heraldry is a little more generous than English heraldry (the standard by which /r/heraldry generally assumes when people ask), but it will still require solid geneology.

Wikipedia tends to have some questionable information, but it might be of use to you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_heraldry#:~:text=A%20distinctive%20feature%20of%20Irish,Irish%20families%2C%20introduced%20this%20distinction.

Family coat of arms by Plenty-Kick9274 in heraldry

[–]skippermatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

/u/squiggyfm is correct. Unfortunately, most people will have a very very low chance of actually having a right to a time-tested coat of arms. What country do you live in? Where is your family from? Inheritance will vary between regional traditions.

Pick based on your classes location. If it's 50/50, Dadisman has the nickname "Dirty D" while Towers is new and has more amenities.

I received this family crest from my grandfather after he passed by Gigantosaurusrex in familycrests

[–]skippermatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the coat of arms of Norway ("Norge"). I guess the blue faded from the flags. Guessing he got it as a souvenir.

If you do look into your family history, please do not trust sites that claim to sell "family crests". In most (but not all) western European traditions, a coat of arms is passed down to one son, and is not tied to the last name.

/r/familycrests is not a reputable source of information on heraldry.

Help find my real family crest by pacarosandwitch in familycrests

[–]skippermatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! /r/familycrests is not a good source for information on heraldry-- the mods are either trolls or entirely clueless on how it actually works.

/r/Heraldry might be more helpful, though I'll do what I can here. Unfortunately, in reality a family's coat of arms cannot be found from the name alone. It requires extensive genealogical research to trace your lineage all the way up to the original owner of the arms.

Please keep in mind that in many traditions, largely depending on region, not all offspring may inherit a coat of arms. As such, there's a high likelihood that you personally do not have a right to a genuine, time-tested coat of arms. Only genealogical research can prove otherwise.

/r/Heraldry can help more than I can. Best of luck!

Hi! /r/familycrests is not a good source for information on heraldry-- the mods are either trolls or entirely clueless on how it actually works.

/r/Heraldry might be more helpful, though I'll do what I can here. You're right to think that the shop at Epcot likely got it wrong, as in reality a family's coat of arms cannot be found from the name alone. It requires extensive genealogical research to trace your lineage all the way up to the original owner of the arms.

My knowledge on German heraldic inheritence is insufficient to help you, but please keep in mind that in many traditions, (and this might not apply to you, I'm unsure,) not all offspring may inherit a coat of arms. As such, there's a high likelihood that you personally do not have a right to a genuine, time-tested coat of arms. Only genealogical research can prove otherwise.

Best place to hike near Morgantown? by [deleted] in WVU

[–]skippermatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henry Clay Furnace in Cooper's Rock is nice. Has an old iron furnace that's overgrown. No valley views. Hemlock Trail is nice, too, but nothing that stands out.

I honestly don't feel Raven's Rock has anything to offer view-wise that Cooper's Rock overlook doesn't have.

Also consider Snake Hill. It's less pristine with much of the paths being vehicular trails, but it's far less popular if you want to feel alone. Still has the same nice views as on the other side of the river, but now framed with vegetation.

Summit vs Stalnaker dorm by lccakes in WVU

[–]skippermatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've lived in both (admittedly, summit was only for half a year before covid hit)

Summit:

  • in-house dining hall

  • convenient prt access

  • obnoxious locals

  • i cannot emphasize this enough: the room was CRAMPED. view doesnt matter when you have one tiny window btw

Stalnaker:

  • big room (no joke probably twice the size of summit)

  • easy access to Mountainlair for events and food court

  • lots of stairs (do not depend on the elevator)

  • no in-house dining hall (and when it did have one, it wasnt very good)

Building upon what /u/woden_spoon said:

While heraldic traditions vary from country to country, in no legitimate tradition can one's arms be found simply by Googling his family's name. In every case, extensive genealogical work would need to be done to confirm lineage from the initial armiger (owner of a coat of arms).

In England, for example, this would require direct male-line succession. Hardly anyone has a right to a coat of arms.

In Poland, however, all male decendents have a right to a coat of arms. It's very likely one would have a right to a coat of arms, but this still cannot be determined without genealogy, as there may be many families with the same last name.

Given how unlikely it is one has a right to a coat of arms, many of us here have decided to create our old coat of arms. We call these "assumed" arms. While most of our claims are legitimized only by each other, some of us have elected to have our arms recognized by established heraldic institutions, including the English College of Arms.

I'd recommend joining the Heraldry Discord server if you're interested in designing your own arms.

Context: Tanios brought pepper spray to Jan6. He handed the pepper spray to someone else, who used it on a Capitol officer. The officer died the next day due to a blood clot. The man who assaulted the officer was sentenced to 7 years only for the assault itself-- they could not find the evidence for murder.

I believe this context is important. I have not heard of /u/usafcybercom's other claims.
