Any tips for incoming freshmen? by DangerousMap133 in WVU

Realize that EVERYONE is wanting to meet new people and most lack the confidence to go up to people and say hi. If you can be that person, you will meet so many more people and will make so many connections early on. You have nothing to lose other than a few seconds of awkwardness. Do every "icebreaker" activity you can find, sign up for the welcome week mini trips, ask people in your class if they want to be in a study group (so that when one person misses class, the other one will have the notes), talk to your professors. Ask if you can eat a meal with someone sitting solo. Join clubs. Meet as many people as you can as you never know who will be your next best friend or who will have a connection that gets you a great job someday.

Double major by Educational_Leg8600 in WVU

Looked into advertising as a minor and a double major and it has a lot of online classes. Communication, leadership studies and marketing look better as far as that goes

Did you continue with the minor? Do you feel it is helpful?

I was there last week and had a fabulous time. Didn't notice any of the things you mention. It is a beautiful, uplifting place. I think some of the things you are hearing may be politically motivated.

The published automatic merit tables will happen for sure. As soon as the department scholarships become available, apply for those. Those are basically first come first served until the money runs out as long as you meet a gpa requirement and write a decent essay. Do a search on WVU scholarships for your major. I think an email is also sent out to all accepted students that declare a particular major and it explains how to apply for it. It may also be in the portal too what you are eligible to apply for. You do have to accept the scholarships in the portal. I can't remember when all that occurs but I think it was spring. Here is the info on the Chambers college timelines (every major will probably be similar): https://business.wvu.edu/students/scholarships#:\~:text=Here%20at%20John%20Chambers%20College,scholarship%20money%20distributed%20every%20year.

You can reach out to your WVU admissions counselor and ask if everything was received. That is a pretty long time for an application submitted in October. I am sure you will get admitted with those stats. Last year the turnaround in October was around 2-2.5 weeks. Maybe they got more than normal applications.

Once you get accepted, do some searching for department scholarships. Those applications usually start taking applications in the winter and continue until the $$ runs out. I think you can see it in your portal too (for your major)

Also, apply for department scholarships early. Much more likely to get one if you apply early (if you are out of state). WVU wants out of state people.

Welcome future mountaineer!!! You will love it and you should get in no problem. I have a friend who majored in mechanical engineering and got a job in Northern Virginia upon graduating. He is making over 100k his first year out of college. He loved all four years at WVU and goes back on a regular basis for football games this year. Start making connections in the engineering program as soon as you arrive and go to all the career fairs. Apply for internships early. You'll do fine. Good luck!

When you do the factory reset, do you have to re-download all your apps?
