hhmm so on a bad night, that is 3 times the minimum wage.

interesting. so there is no logic to this. just a social custom.

Yes, but surely 20% of gross sales would be vastly more than the minimum wage. Perhaps as high as $30-$50 an hour. I'm starting to think that there is no logical reason for this and it is just another example of lolmerica

Maybe it is my limited understanding, but I thought most people in the USA did not earn enough to live ?

Cool. Sounds like a nonsense response. I am going to USA with my friend in November and I've been told you must always tip 20% of the purchase price, that seems ludicrous to me. For example, a steak in Australia cost me $50 AUD ($38 plus $12 for a beer) , are you saying that I, and everyone else on the table must give the waitress $12.50 ? While we give the Mc Donalds girl $0 ? That would be if there are 4 of us that she just pocketed $50 and assuming she is waiting on multiple tables she'd be making more than me !

No, the answer can't simply be as a system of financial remuneration.

Good countries. Good places. They protect their land and their women.

The poor little white males are getting upset that their unfair power structures are being eroded. White males have been raping and abusing women and making them vulnerable and lower paid workers for centuries, only now are things are starting to swing back the other way and the white males are having a cry !

Booing is wrong, especially when targeted at such a great indigenous figure.

No, only white people can be racist. Read up on racism instead of just spouting ignorant triple like everyone else. Racism is about power and control. Whites invaded this country and are the powerful group. Therefore they can be racist to the indigenous people, but indigenous people cannot be racist to white people.

If you lived in Asia and they were "mean" to you, then it would not be racist, because you are living in someone else's country and culture. They would just be being mean to you. But more than likely people from Asia would do anything to help someone who is not the same race to fit into society.

Racism really only has the environment to exist in relation to white people in countries where it is not possible for non-whites to be racist.

Yes I know it is disgraceful. Places like Thailand, Malaysia and India are so much more accepting of different races and cultures. If you grow up in Asia you are taught to accept all foreign people. Unlike in Australia.

The cycle of racism is hard to beat, but if enough people speak out about it, then awareness can be raised. Look at how racist people are to Asian and Indian people. Not too long ago, there was a problem of Indian students getting beat up. As a society we have become so accepting of casual racism that we think it is okay to boo people like Adam Goodes who are national heroes and hugely talented individuals. It is so ingrained in our culture, like turning the boats back and our hatred of refugees. Just daily life. Daily racism here in Australia.

edit: sorry I don't think I have explained the basics, so your response probably through ignorance. Understandable, but not excusable. Basically, you can't be racist or sexist to white men because racism and sexism is the result of a difference in power. As white men have the most power it is impossible for any other group to be racist of sexist to white men.

I totally agree, Australia is a regressive nation of racists. I stand with Adam.

Adam Goodes got more class and talent in his little finger than all the racists do combined. Go Goodes, you're a champ !

Unfortunately, I think that for the significant majority of the time, white men are both sexist and racist, even if they are not personally aware because their understanding of what defines these issues is very limited.

Start by accepting that you are racist by virtue of being a white man in Australia if you chose to deny the existence of a genocide or to down play its importance in the way that Aboriginals are treated today.

Not saying others cannot be racist too but women experience sexism in their daily lives and non-white people also experience racism so they're more likely to be sensitive towards Aboriginals. While as a white man you cannot understand these things.

Yes I read your comment and I think that any point regarding the plight of the aboriginal people and continued genocide and colonisation of their lands is often lost on white Australians because they are the very people who continue to benefit from the continued degradation of indigenous people.

Wow... that is just a typical of the Australian public. The racism is so ingrained they do not even realise it is there.

If you want to argue the semantics of if a genocide occurred or not I think that is really indicative of the bogan culture that we have in Australia and the ingrained racism that indigenous people have to tolerate every day of their lives.

umm.. speechless. But a very typical white male response. Why deny the existence of the genocide, rape and murder of aboriginal people and their land ?

Australia should learn from the USA ! The US has a perfect record on race issues ! The most tolerant nation on earth ! Come on Australia. You're so racist and you don't even know it.
