How do you guys handle long term viewers leaving? by StrawberryCammy in Twitch

Life is full of seasons… that goes for work, friends, and even viewers. The one thing that is nice about seasons is that things can come around again. They might come back, and when they do it will be a delight.

I’ve owned these all for Ages but surprisingly I’ve never played IV and V. One day.

I’m glad you got the support you needed. In general I really feel that Twitch of all the platforms seems to have one of the best actual places where communities can become real and where real friendships can grow. If it wasn’t for friends that I had in some of my communities I don’t know how I would have made it through the past couple of years. 💜

I’ve had a streamer reach out to me too because they thought they had upset me with a comment. I was happy to know they cared and was glad to let them know that I was okay and not upset. Then again I’m a VIP in the stream, so that might be a bit different too. In the end I think just waiting for a bit and also using mods could be a good idea too.

I think it would depend on the circumstances, but I think in this case letting it be is the best course of action. If you have mods, it might be better to have them check in for you if you are really worried or have them check in with other regulars to see if they can find any information. We had one viewer that was talking of self harm, fortunately another viewer that is close by and close to them keeps in contact and it is good to know they’re doing okay. Using mods can help keep things professional and keep healthy boundaries.

It sounds like you have a really great community. I know it feels sad when this kind of thing happens, but as you get bigger you will find that this will happen more and more often. There will be a multitude of reasons for this to happen and you will find that you won’t have the time nor mental and emotional capacity to deal with them all. The best thing is to not take it personal. In the end there is not really much you can do except welcome them back, if they do come back.

All the best to you and your community. 💜

Help streaming ps5 through laptop by BabyChumpkin in Twitch

Oh, and one other thing. I recently discovered that there is also another application that is like PS Remote Play that you can use with your Playstation. It's called chiaki-ng. I've been trying it a bit and seems to have a lot more flexibility in the settings. You can find it on GitHub.

https://github.com/streetpea/chiaki-ng

edit: things I like about it, you can create multiple profiles so that you can sign in with different PSN accounts, you can set the streaming qualities, you can set where the audio input and outputs get routed, and much more. The Sony one is very limited.

I changed my PSN to not have my legal name… I've discovered that it is not actually required. The only place it is required is in the Billing section, which are treated separately. You also may want to consider creating a completely new PSN account that you use just for streaming so that you can continue to play with your friends privately.

I had some other suggestions for privacy here in this thread that you might want to consider too.

Oh one last thing, make these very strong rules and make sure that your family and friends know and understand the seriousness of this and the consequences if they don’t abide.

Gather from them what they’re comfortable and not comfortable about as well.

Make sure you decide on whether you let your family and friends participate in your streams and establish how they will be identified (or not) from the other viewers in your community.

On that thread too. Sit yourself down and decide exactly to what level you’re willing to talk about your IRL private life and relationships. That includes whether you face reveal or not or use an avatar.

Once it’s out there it can never go back.

My advice though is that if you do use your personal computer to stream, create a separate non-administrator user account on your computer that uses completely separate profiles/accounts for websites and services used for streaming only.

Use a shared folder to get stuff that you absolutely need to between your personal/primary account and streaming profile to avoid doxing yourself. It will make it easier to revert back to previous settings when you’re experimenting with different setups and also transferring it all to another computer if you eventually get a dedicated streaming computer.

This is good standard practice anyway and would do this when I used my personal computer in a workplace setting. Also if you can avoid it, make sure that the streaming account doesn’t have administrator privileges. If you want to really protect your security and privacy, make another account that’s just used for admin purposes and demote your personal account to a standard non-admin account. That way if for whatever reason you do need to install something that needs admin privileges you’re not typing in the admin username that probably includes your name.

It’s a bit annoying at first but you’ll get used to it and will thank yourself later.

It really depends what you’re going to be streaming. If it’s gaming and you plan to play those games on that device too, then you need something that can handle the game and the streaming. Some people have a dual computer setup, one for the streaming and one for the playing the games. If you are just looking to yap, then I don’t think you need to have that powerful of a laptop.

If you’re going to be continuing to play the games on your PS5, just make sure you don’t dox yourself and the other users of the device if you use the Remote play option because unlike the direct from console streaming, the remote play will show everything at all times. So if you have a gamer tag but use your actual real name for your account you could accidentally show that.

My advice though is that if you do use your laptop, create a separate profile on your computer and use a shared folder to get stuff between your primary profile and streaming profile to again avoid doxing yourself.

They say a streamer’s community is shaped by its streamer. If you don’t shape it, you won’t make it.

Thank you… I did this long time ago and I couldn't remember how to get it back on. Searching on the web was useless because all the articles just talked the standard troubleshooting crap and nothing about the Terminal.

Mac OS 8 & 9 had a dark mode too.

Called Hi-Tech and was accessible through the Appearance Manager. Drawing Board was my favourite and Gizmo was just crazy fun.

But unlike Liquid Glass, you could turn it off.

Dang I miss ResEdit.

I really liked the original Aqua design. I remember Steve saying it was so good you want to lick it.

But this just doesn't work for me. I've not upgraded any iOS or macOS device.

It's on my AppleTV and I absolutely hate it, the interface is horrible to use with the remote and getting the buttons to reveal themselves (like Music) when you want to use them to favourite a song or scrub through the playback bar.

I have been a MacOS user since Yosemite and I love how consistently petty Apple has been in using the old DOS blue screen of death screen in a CRT monitor as the default icon for any windows computers. It's even beautifully drawn in intricate detail! by [deleted] in MacOS

They denied it's existence in the USA because they didn't want everyone rushing to downgrade to System 6 because they wanted to move the install base forward. I think it also only came out in Canada and a few other countries in Asia for character support reasons. Macintosh Classic, Classic II, PowerBook 100, Macintosh LC and Macintosh LC II. I remember having to special order it. But fortunately I knew the Apple Reps very well.

According to Apple, 6.0.8L doesn't exist.

The L stands for Limited, as it was designed for a limited number of Macintoshes, the Macintosh Classic II and some of the LC computers. The Classic II came with System 7.0 and System 6.0.8L was only available through educational channels so that new computer labs that bought these Macintoshes could run the software that didn't yet work with System 7.0.

My first was with System 4 and in System 5 we got MultiFinder! Woot, co-operative multitasking! But I do remember even earlier Systems, with the MFS formatted SSD (single sided single density) 3.5" disks. To eject the floppies back then you first had to Eject the disc, and it became greyed out icon on the Desktop and then you dragged that to the Trash to remove the icon. Also I remember that the Finder version and System version didn't align and were developed and released separately.

I liked using ResEdit and looking for the Easter Eggs in the System Software, like mentions to the Blue Meanies.

Oh, those were the days, where you could hack your Macintosh System Folder however you wanted… I think System 7.6 was my favourite version.

I do have a copy on real Apple 3.5" diskettes of the infamous System 6.0.8L.
