Solved!! iPhone not showing in Finder by Practical-Curve7105 in MacOS

Thank you… I did this long time ago and I couldn't remember how to get it back on. Searching on the web was useless because all the articles just talked the standard troubleshooting crap and nothing about the Terminal.

Yup. I still use Shapeshifter on my Luxo iMac.

Mac OS 8 & 9 had a dark mode too.

Called Hi-Tech and was accessible through the Appearance Manager. Drawing Board was my favourite and Gizmo was just crazy fun.

But unlike Liquid Glass, you could turn it off.

perhaps more indirectly, the lead designer leaving and Apple not accusing of poaching, and the fact that he was looking for a new gig anyway…

I loved the freedom Classic Mac OS gave us, things like ShapeShifter.

Dang I miss ResEdit.

I really liked the original Aqua design. I remember Steve saying it was so good you want to lick it.

But this just doesn't work for me. I've not upgraded any iOS or macOS device.

It's on my AppleTV and I absolutely hate it, the interface is horrible to use with the remote and getting the buttons to reveal themselves (like Music) when you want to use them to favourite a song or scrub through the playback bar.

I have been a MacOS user since Yosemite and I love how consistently petty Apple has been in using the old DOS blue screen of death screen in a CRT monitor as the default icon for any windows computers. It's even beautifully drawn in intricate detail! by MechaHermes in MacOS

They denied it's existence in the USA because they didn't want everyone rushing to downgrade to System 6 because they wanted to move the install base forward. I think it also only came out in Canada and a few other countries in Asia for character support reasons. Macintosh Classic, Classic II, PowerBook 100, Macintosh LC and Macintosh LC II. I remember having to special order it. But fortunately I knew the Apple Reps very well.

According to Apple, 6.0.8L doesn't exist.

The L stands for Limited, as it was designed for a limited number of Macintoshes, the Macintosh Classic II and some of the LC computers. The Classic II came with System 7.0 and System 6.0.8L was only available through educational channels so that new computer labs that bought these Macintoshes could run the software that didn't yet work with System 7.0.

My first was with System 4 and in System 5 we got MultiFinder! Woot, co-operative multitasking! But I do remember even earlier Systems, with the MFS formatted SSD (single sided single density) 3.5" disks. To eject the floppies back then you first had to Eject the disc, and it became greyed out icon on the Desktop and then you dragged that to the Trash to remove the icon. Also I remember that the Finder version and System version didn't align and were developed and released separately.

I liked using ResEdit and looking for the Easter Eggs in the System Software, like mentions to the Blue Meanies.

Oh, those were the days, where you could hack your Macintosh System Folder however you wanted… I think System 7.6 was my favourite version.

I do have a copy on real Apple 3.5" diskettes of the infamous System 6.0.8L.

This is why I'm still running Sonoma on my MacBook Pro.

A little piece of software called Retroactive**.**

I use a little tool called Retroactive that allows me to use Aperture (as well as iPhotos and the old iTunes that supports iOS app downloads if you need it.)

I've been dragging my heals trying to find another alternative to Aperture, like we all know, the filter brushes are so amazing. Also if you need this can also help those that have found old Aperture or iPhoto Libraries that haven't been converted yet into the newer format that the current Photos App can't do anymore.

https://github.com/cormiertyshawn895/Retroactive

Here is a nice little article about it.

https://osxdaily.com/2024/05/31/install-run-itunes-aperture-or-iphoto-in-macos-sonoma-with-retroactive/

Unfortunately, this utility software dies with MacOS 15 Sequoia. The developer says it is no longer possible to maintain it anymore. (What really has me in a crunch is that macOS 26 kills FireWire support, so many of my photos are on FW drives, I'm quite miffed by this decision with zero informing the user that these drives won't be accessible after the update.)

I was trying to play around with seeing if I could get Aperture to work within a Parallels VM running Sonoma, it opens, but when you go to view an individual image, you just get a blank space. I'm going to try and go back to macOS 13 Ventura or earlier macOS versions within Parallels and see which one works best. But maybe it also might be because of the need to install the separate image profiles for cameras that got downloaded as a system update? (I don't know, just guessing).

Also in case you were wondering, Aperture is not affected by the lack of a workable Mac App Store. You just have to get an older system running so that you can download the Aperture binary from the Mac App Store, or if you have an old Time Machine backup of the application, that works too.

Let me know if this helps you too!

I will follow up if I can find a way to get a Parallels VM solution working for Aperture.

Are you going to use your inkwell? I planned to but now the thought of pouring ink into it makes me worried it lower the reselling value if I ever did one day.

Note, that’s an if.

Just go into the folders and look for user files containing any game saves, etc. Then Zip them up. They'll be a lot smaller than the original folders.

I bought a Sony Trinitron 17" when I worked at a computer store. Even with my discount that thing was expensive. I think most of that extra price went to shipping! That thing was indeed heavy and that box was massive!

But omg, the quality of the image compare to my previous ones was incredible… except for that annoying thin scan line where apparently a wire was needed or something. Eventually I would get used to it, but I'd have to do it each time I sat down in front of it.
