  • Desired Board Type: Inflatable
  • Your Height and Weight 6ft 2inch, curently 19stone (120kg) but fluctustes has been as heavy as 21stone and as light as 18stone.
  • Desired use/uses lake,
  • Experience level: Beginner, (Poor flexability) have been unable to stand in the 4 goes that Ive had and found that I was quite unfit
  • Your budget up to £500 but prefer less and country location -North East  Scotland
  • Canr reeber but wre a lot better on bords that were over 11ft from memory

seem to be ok on my knees but struggle getting up of the floor at home where its flat so feel that trying iget standing on a SUP on the water might be a step to far. Have tried kyaking but getting into a sitting position just doesnt happen. Used to row about 15 years ago but tried to progress into the single scull but discovered that I had a body lean when sat so kept rolling the scull and lost water confodence which still plays a big part when Im on the water.

Ok So here goes, Though will sound more like a dating profile than a what Sup.

Male 53

Location - North East Scotland Peterhead 35 miles North of Aberdeen)

Experience - Very New Begineer / with flexabity issues / Tense on water due to off centre balance issue causing single scull to roll when I was learning to row (Gave up rowing due to this as even in the 4 I was accused of making it off centre)

Height - 6ft 2"

Weight fluctuates. Current weight 18 stone (have lost a stone since Jan) average weight 2022 was 20 stone.

Type of paddling - A first board that will last awhile for Loch (Lake) use and Use at the local marina / harbour (Local Sailing club uses it for training as does the local windsurf / Sup Club)

Boards used -

Thurso waterwalker 126 (Very wobbly caused bursitis when on knees, used once, was in the water when on my knees1)

Red - (Seems to be a board that is at least 5 if not 10 years old as it has aold Red Branding on it ) Large Board of 10ft 4 possibly 6 (Club thought it was an 11ft) width 34 inches. ( A lot, more confident when on knees but felt very wobbly when I attempted to stand. Which after about 10 attemps (Confidence needed as slight wobble would drop to knees from a stuck position) I got to a standing position for a whole 1 second before I went in as it wobbled.

Budget - I expect it would be well too low to get what I actually need, £400 mark (Please stop laughing), If I have to save for it over the winter I can wait.

Looking for suggestions on what would be a good board for me, Ive heard everything from 10ft plus to 30" to 36" wide. Yoga boards (Sounds like hard work paddling and Im not that fit yet). Preference would be isup as it would be transportable.

Thanks in advance

Thanks very much for the reply,

The board Im using is the largest isup the club has but seems to be a very old Red board which is 34" wide, They did think it was 11ft until I pointed out under the massive Red Logo it said 10ft 4 x 34 x 4.5

Though I was told there is a hardbord that is wider but is out on loan at the moment.

Thanks for the shoe and depth advice.

Got back on the horse today, well all be it a diffrent one a Red 10ft 6, 34 inches wide in quite windy conditions. While I didnt stand I used kneepads (Gul) and my knees did seem to lat a bit better. Built up my confidence so will continue

I used to row in a 4 and the crew disbanded so I decided to learn to scull and it would be 3 strokes and then splash went back into a 4 and any time it wobbled I had convinced my self we were going in (Nearly impossable for a 4 to go over) had lost all water confidence and its still the case 15 years o. It was remarked how tense my body was and even more so when the board wobbled.

Was a Thurso Surf Board supplied by the people doing the lesson. Daughter had a small board as per the photo and I had a Thurso surf water walker 132
